Hi,

I have a Santro LE car of 2001. Recently 3 months back I had the complete Clutch Assembly replaced. Now recently after pressing the clutch there is a humming sound. This sound is exactly like racing the car. It seems that the RPM increases after pressing the clutch. I had it shown to the authorised service centres but whenever the mechanic checked the noise was not coming and hence they were not able to deduce why this is happening. I told them that if it is a clutch problem you need to get the job done free of cost as it is under warranty for 6 Months.

Today when the mechanic checked he told me that the Clutch is Okay and this sound is coming because there must be some problem with the ECU motor and it needs to be checked. Since the work shop is overloaded they are not taking my car and have told me to bring it after the noise is continous. They have changed some settings and have informed that you drive the car for some days.

Please guide me why this noise is coming and what connection there could be between the clutch and the increased RPM and is it releated to the ECU motor. I would also be gratefull if some one can give me the detailed function of the ECU motor.

Please note that earlier my car was giving mileage of 11 KM per Litre but now the average has dropped to 8 Km per Ltr.

the ECU has nothing whats so ever to do with the clutch. if you only get the noise when you press the clutch pedal then it is almost certain to be the clutch release bearing or mayby even a broken clutch presure plate, without seeing your car it sounds to me that you have a good reason to complain

Dear Montego,

Thanks for taking out the time to reply to my query. I believe the problem can be analysed only after the service center takes the Car into their work shop and throughly checks it. For your information I am staying in Bombay India and there was tremendous rain in July and most of the cars were submerged in Rains. The service centre guys have got lot of work load and are not attending to any new car complaints. Hence they are not attending to my problem and are just trying to buy time by giving different excuses every time.

I will again ask them to check my car throughly and attend to the problem.

Thanks again

Rgds

Its a tough one. I had the same problem and had to live with it for 3 years before it got solved. Yes, its basically to do with the ECU. You also must be facing another problem when this happens, that is the car will continue to move forward without pressing the accelerator.
And the most irritating part is that the mechanics dont seem to understand the problem. Try telling them that the car moves without accelerator (if that indeed happens in your case). They may get the clue from that.
Meanwhile what you can do is whenever the problem occurs stop the car and start it again. It may go away.
Give me your email address and I can send you some mails I got from cybersteering.com regarding this problem. It may be helpful.
Regards
Ajay

Dear Ajay,

Thanks for replying to my query. You may send the emails on manishpathare@yahoo.com. I have taken the car to another Hyundai Authorised service centre in Mumbai . They have informed me that this problem is due to the ISA motor malfunctioning. They have told me to get the motor changed which I will be doing shortly. The motor cost is around Rs. 3500. Hopefully the problem should get solved. Yes the car does move ahead without acceleration.
