Hi all

Anyone got any idea of minimum thickness of brake discs ventilated(rotors), for elantra 1.6, 2001 with abs.

I have just changed a set of front pads and noticed that the inner side of the both discs had a bigger lip than the outside :o . it looked like uneven waer until I filed away the rust build up, then both sides looked equal again.

At present I have 22.5mm thickness left on each disc.

One other question, leading up to my pad change, the brakes started to seem spongy, could this be due to brake fluid loosing its efficiency due to heating. Since I have bled the calipers they seem to be biting more sharply again. :D

new disc is 24mm, max wear down to 22mm.
I would not worry if there are no brake vibrations, and the car stops good.

Bear in mind that brake fluid WILL absorb moisture from the atmosphere & cause a spongy pedal feel, even after bleeding........it needs to be changed every 2 years...... unless you use the newly-developed fully synthetic, silicone-based (expensive!) products as a substitute
These have an indefinite lifespan & should never require replacement!.

Cheers,
Nick. :)

Cheers Duke, yes car stops fine without and undue noise or vibration, I shall keep a close eye on them. :)

Thanks for the advice nick.

As the car has been at main dealers for first 3 years service you would have thought that they would have changed the fluid at the correct specified time, however you just know you are going to get ripped off somewhere along the line. I always put a marker pen dot on things like spark plugs, air and oil filters. I caught them out, they charged me for new air filter when all they had done was turn it round 180% (they hadn't any in stock), needless to say I ended up with a new one being fitted by the dealer at my home.

As the saying goes you can't bull***t a bull*****er!! :wink2:
