Hi,
i own a 2001 elantra with 58,100 miles on the car. within the last two weeks, i have had problems with the oil light coming on. when the light comes on, the car does not accelerate as it usually does. Last night, while driving, the light came on again and the car losts it acceleration power. I pulled over and took off the oil cap and light went off as well. I have had a lot of problems with the car not running as smoothly as it usually does. To be honest, I am clueless about cars and I am looking for any help at all. I went to a Hyundai dealership and they claim they cannot investigate the problem unless I am able to duplicate the problem. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do, I would truly appreciate it.

I dont think you mentioned if you have checked the oil level. Are you doing regular maintenance ie. oil/filter changes every 3000miles/5000kms.

I have done the oil changes. I haven't had anything done to the oil filter. I am approaching the 60,000 suggested maintenance. Could that be the problem? Sorry for the ignorance

I also had a new oil pan put on the car. The dealership and another place told me I needed a oil pan and gasket. I was later told from other people that the oil pan shouldn't have to be replaced--but it was a used car. So I am not sure if it was damaged before I bought it.
