So I just bought our first Hyundai, a 2005 Elantra GLS. Very pleasant process with this particular dealer, but...
We got two extra keys because there may be four people driving this at any time. We have found out that if you lock the car with the keyless remote, then try to open it with the iginition key, you set off the alarm. The manual seems to clearly state that you should be okay to open the car with the remote OR the ignition key without this happening. The dealer insists that what's happening with ours is correct, because they set the alarm off when people leave their cars over night for service, lock it with the remote, then leave the key in the drop box. But they say this only happens on the Elantra, not the other models. We've set this off numerous times already in just the first week we've owned the car. We have other makes of cars with the same kind of system, and all those work properly with the remote or the ignition key. This has really been a disappointment, particularly since the manual seems to clearly state that the ignition key should work without setting off the alarm. Is anybody else having this problem?
