Hello all. After installing have the replacement motor (~62k) in the xg, I am greeted with the oh-so-sweet no start. I noticed some coolant and oil mingling together (leaking from the VC) when I pulled the plugs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wallbash.gif) Are the 3.0's prone to blown head gaskets, and if so, should I stick with factory or aftermarket?

Thanks,
Brad

No, 3.0L is not prone to blown head gaskets, at least not any more than any other car is. Sounds like you just got a bad motor. I'd probably get whatever is available on eBay or something, but I don't pull to many heads. Sorry for your trouble, hope it works out ok. Please let us know how you make out.

just do a general search on google for xg head gaskets and you will find what I found. They are korean and make sure they are metal or MLS, but dont get the ones that have a orange colored ring around the entire gasket. These are the cheaper ones. I've used the a/market korean brand and have even gone as far as removing them and reusing them when I found out I had to re-ring the pistons. Oh and btw doing this is not fun at all But doing head gaskets never is. Dont forget to replace the vc gaskets to and if you really want you can buy them for a Kia Sedona(only for vc gaskets and not the head gasket ok!) if you want OEM and they will be way cheaper then Hyundai but a/market is great also. Too bad it's not a 3.5L as I have 2 sets of OEM head gaskets lying around.
A little background for you, all Kia Sedonas have the XG 3.5L were everything is the same except the headgasket bore, camshafts and throttle body. And your '01 XG is 3.0L with smaller piston bore.

Thanks for the help. I got a killer deal for the complete upper gasket set from the dealer, they will be in on the 15th. Hopefully I can get her running by next weekend.
