Hello Everyone,

Today i experienced something weird. I just started the engine and i wanted to play the Radio. The button and any other button has no effect. It is just stuck in the Display showing (Trip A, Trip B, and time traveled, temperature, calender and clock) no other button works including the "DARK"...

What should i do ... so weird ?

This is a common problem. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)
Try to remove the fuse and put it back, it worked for me.

I got my car yesterday to the Hyundai Service and they also supported what you said about the "common problem". The thing with the fuse didn't work out, but they did something else. They disconnected the battery from the car for about 5 seconds and then connected it back and it worked.

The problem why this happens is because most probably everyone of use when they turn of their engine, they don't turn off the radio and so it Crashes. It is also written in the book that before turning off the engine you should turn off the radio.

Anyway, nice that is fixed now. If it happens to anyone, try the fuse or to disconnect the battery.

So why does this happen, I have never had to (nor been recommended) switch a radio off before stopping the engine, surely the advancements in electronics would mean that head units are better equiped now than in the past to cope with sudden power loss I have never had this happen no matter how old the unit - is there a permenant fix ? Are hyundai looking into a permenant fix or do we have to put up with it ??

Well i don't know about Hyundai if it is a permanent problem or what but i guess we have to be a bit more careful with that one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If you have an older software version HU this may happen . To check the software version of your HU first press and hold 1FF button then 6 of the HU. Look at the Multi information Display which displays your Trip A, Trip B etc . If the code is VER M08 S69 D18 then your HU is faulty and you can ask for a free replacement . If the code is VER M08 S71 D29 then your HU is alright.

I cured all the OEM radio problems at a stroke by replacing the radio. Now I have a Sony 'double din' one which gives me USB, aux in, a decent radio and cost me under £200 including fascia kit, connectors etc. It also has a CD player as does the OEM radio, but since I now just plug in a flash memory to the USB, I don't need the CD player. The best that can be said about the OEM radio is that it's "cheap and cheerful",- you can't really expect a decent unit for the price of the car, especially when you consider the other standard equipment compared to other car manufacturers offerings!

I've have the same problem with my i20's radio. I have managed to reproduce the problem, and it happens every time I try to eject a CD from the radio while the car is off (key removed from ignition).

Easy solution, don't try and eject disks while the car is turned off. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

But a quick fix for it is to remove the fuse holder that holds the ROOM and AUDIO fuses...
In my i20 its the top most set of fuses in the fuse box inside the car. After unplugging them for a minute or so, plug them back in and it works again.

I did as you said, press and hold 1FF then 6 and the display never changed! Am I doing something wrong? Not that I have any radio problems but thought I'd just check which version I had.

Hi i20 Asta

trust mine to be different, I did as you sugested and got the code M08 S69 D27

is that a dodgy radio or is it OK?

The car is a i20 comfort 3 door, September 2009.

Thanks for the good advice

Regards
Richard

Forgot to add, so far the radio has been fine except it seems to spend a lot of time hunting for the station it is tuned into.
Thanks.

I think the way in which he has highlighted the s69 & s71 in his post indicates that it is this part of the code that says if it is the good or bad type - I think this means yours is one of the faulty units
