So my XG350 is about to turn over 160,000. Ive had the car for about 3 and a half years now. when i bought it, it had 70,000. As of about two months ago the only problems ive had with it are the passenger-side CV joint and the power steering pressure hose. Currently, im looking at the routine replacement of the timing belt, water pump, pulleys, and the other belts. I found a complete timing belt kit for right under $400, then labor at about another $400. also, my rack and pinion crapped out on me. so with that and a new PS pump, im looking at another $300-$400 in parts. I can handle that job myself so thatll save me a lil bit of cash. but i am worried about the high milage on the engine and if it would be worth it to drop all that money into it. Does anyone know what the extent of the life is on the 3.5L V6? Any idea on how long the engine will go for? Are the problems going to progressively get worse and more frequent?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

l have not known about any major problems that present themselfs on the XG (you can be unlucky of course).

the highest mileage that l have come accross is 180,000 but there again its more than possible that there are alot of cars out there that have done more than that, l always say that 'better the devil you know than the devil you don't'

I dont think there are enough XG's out there with high mileage to take for example. The car is only as much as 9 years old and there are only a number of common issues with it. They are all constantly being discussed on this forum if you search thru the threads.

my daughters car has 175,000 with no major probs. Timming belt was done along with the water pump for $700. It had a starting issue last week with -29 deg F so I should put a engine heater on it for her. The car is usually in the garage and normally will start when its -10 to -15. No noises or knocks just alittle creeking from the suspension.

The engine on my xg350 gave out at 86k. The dealer said that was not nomal and these are high milage engines. Hyundai has installed a short block under warranty, but today when I was told I could pick it up, they tell me the car has an abs modulator problem. I became semi-irate with them because this car did not have any abs or other problems except the engine when I had it towed to them. They are checking it out to see if they did any damage to the wiring or other components during the engine swap.

BTW this car was serviced properly with penzoil oil. Full synthetic oil with about 300 miles on a fresh change when the engine went south.

Turns out the mechanic had mashed the connector on the wires going to the abs modulator. They repaired that. I picked up and it ran great. Hyundai paid a pretty price for that, but there was never any quirks about the warranty issues with them.
