This is from an earlier post:

There are two spring clips that hold down the front of the rear seat cushion - the back of the cusion is bolted down.

If you had two rear passengers the clips would be between their legs.

Its a bit tricky to get them to release.

Lift up on the bottom front edge of the seat (not too hard) and then push against the bottom edge where the clips are located. You'll probabaly have to push it back about an inch or so

With some jiggling you should be able to get them to release. After that the seat will pivot up enough to let you get at the fuel filter. You'll need to prop it up with a block of wood or something

If you need more room the seat cussion can be removed altogether.

Bankston,

I just had the dealer replace my fuel filters on my 2001 Elantra. There are actually 2 of them. Don't forget to depressurize the fuel system by disconnecting the fuel pump electrical connection (also under the rear seat) before opening the fuel lines.

I decided to let the dealer do it for $86 including parts since the webtech photos were not that good and even my local mechanic wasn't sure if the filter(s) were inside the gas tank or not. I also could not figure out how to get the seat out ;o).

Best Regards,
George

The seats are confusing. The factory manual / chiltons says that there is a strap that you can pull on to remove the seat bottom. I was never able to find it. I wound up removing the seat backs to get at the mounting hardware for the cushion. After that, it came out easy.
