my husband is the mechanic.. i am the computer operator (but i do know alot about cars)

We are getting code P0722 - output speed sensor. everyso often the car gets locked into 2/3rd gear and stays there until it releases.

Q1... is this the SAME as the Pulse Generator Sensor??
Q2 .. there is discussion on reprogramming.. my husband thinks his part is ok.... as he did some diagnosis on it... is it as simple as reprogramming??
Q3- the service dealer says these parts go frequently... should we replace the part first... then think about reprogramming??

Q4.. is there a way for US to reprogram vehicle by ourselves..??

We really want to just fix it cheaply until we can find another vehicle to buy..
but want it running ok to possibly sell it..

Any advice would be appreciated from the "experts"

Thank you!

Ok we'll go in order of your questions here.

Q1 - The speed sensors are the pulse generators. They come as an attached set (input & output)
Q2 - There's not any reprogramming for a faulty sensor. Only clear the code and see if it comes back.

Q3 -If the sensor is gone, replacement is the only option. And they were right they do go frequently. I keep them in stock (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Q4 - Refer to Q2.

I've heard of dealers reprogramming the TCM(transmission control module) because of the P0722 code.
