l am having problems with my hyundai accent 1.3i year 2000. There is no spark at all, l drove the car home, stopped i and next morning it wouldn't start. l have been told to check out the crankshaft position sensor, where is this and how do l access it? Anyway of testing it or is it just a case of trying another one on?

You need a code scan before you start willy-nilly replacing parts. True to say there is a good chance it's your crank position sensor, but I wouldn't replace it without the scan.

Usually if it's the crank sensor the CEL/MIL will be on. Scan it then go from there.

l bought a cheap little scanner off e.bay and when l plugged it in it came back with no faults. ls this because these scanners aren't that good or is there another reason?

No, it means there is no codes. Unless you got an error message about "no connection".

Ok, then the CEL system failed you. If you obviously don't have any spark in ANY cylinder, then I'd be replacing the crank position sensor. Since we don't have the 1.3L motor in the US, I can't be sure about the sensor location, but on the 1.5 motor it's near the flywheel and comes out easy.

Yes, they do fail. However there should have been a code.

Did you check for spark? No CEL makes me think it could be a fuel issue.

before replacing the sensor, disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes. I had the same no-spark problem and that fixed it for me ;)
