Hi all I brought my 06 sonata in for a recall , a whine in the power steering and the thunk in the rear . After going they said they heard no such whine or thunk. After speaking with service manager he agreed that the whine from the power steering was abnormal and decided to keep the car , he also said he will look into the thunk . they were good enough to give me a loaner . A day and half later I got a call saying they are awaiting word from hyundai corporate about what they are going to do. I was just wondering if this is normal . Like I said I have a loner but cannot help wondering whats the delay . any insight into the warranty procedure appreciated.

It seems easier to put you in a Loaner and send you on your way. Whether they fix anything while you are gone is always a crapshoot.

But the Whining thing should be fixed for you, yet it does help if they can hear the problems. Dealers have a way of blowing you off.

About the thunk, and this just came up recently, some dealers were fixing 06 Models, but those Owners who have had success generally were in their

first year adjustment period. Try reading some of these older K-Thunk posts!

As much as I dislike dealers, or rather am suspicious of them, the other side of the story is, if they do warranty work that's not approved by the car manufacturer, they'll lose money, especially when replacing parts that they won't get reimbursed for. Some dealers have better relationship with the regional rep, some worse. So it's not necessarily a game, the dealer needs approval by Hyundai before doing the work.

The willingness to do warranty work seems vary wildly between dealers. I've been lucky - my dealer has done a number of repairs under warranty with no hassles and a loaner, including the rear ka-thunk fix on my 06.

Well just an update ... I am picking up the car tomorrow . Turns out Hyundai replaced the power steering pump under warranty .( even though they initially claimed they never heard the whine in the pump ) A deaf mute could probably hear that whine .! As far as the rear shocks they still feel that "there is nothing wrong with them " After driving the loaner 2010 sonata about 300 miles, I am amazed at how quiet the newer car is with the upgraded rear shocks . At this point I am buying the KYB's I am just done with going back and forth with them . Vavso
