Hi, I have a question about the parking brake, mine is a 2009 2.2 auto 4wd, the parking brake cannot hold the car if there is any inclination of the ground, I had the same problem with my 2008 SF, at the dealer they say its normal, but I dont think the same, and its not a good idea to hold this car with the transmission, does anybody else has complaints about this??

The dealer seriously said that? I've always used my parking brake on inclines. I've done this in every vehicle I've owned. My small driveway, up to the little garge is on a steep slope. If I park in front of the garage, I make sure to engage the parking brake. The parking brake will hold it firm.

We similarily have a sleep drive way and the park brake needs to be applied firmly to hold the vehicle. The SF will slip a few inches, but then hold firm. It may be that the park brake cable needs re-tensioning to apply appropriate pressure on the disks.

My SF parking brake holds the vehicle on inclines. Yours probably needs an adjustment, or possibly de-glazing of the brake's contact surfaces. Did you ever leave it on accidentally while driving?

My previous Nissan minivan wouldn't hold on an incline, and it also made rattling noises going over bumps. Turns out part of the parking brake assembly was dangling loose under the vehicle.

Yep, sure sounds like the P-brake needs an adjustment. My 2008 GLS AWD 2.7L holds tight as well. I mash mine before putting the trans in park since my driveway is steeply inclined to the road.

Parking/emergency brake that cannon hold on an incline is practically useless. It needs to be fixed.

Now then, be aware that it is a common tactic of unscrupulous repairs shops to squirt superglue into the parking brake cable - usually right at where the single cable splits into two cables running to the two rear wheels. This is so that the parking brake pedal/handle still operates, but one wheel see no actuation, and the other side's effectiveness is greatly reduced. The repair shop will do this when the car is in for a routine inspection or oil change. They will pull this stunt while they have you car on the lift. Then they'll tell you the car has brake problems and charge you money to fix the problem they created.

My '09's parking brake holds on an incline, also. When I pull into my driveway, I stop...put it trans in 'N' and apply the PB firmly. Then, I shift into Park. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

If you don't release the PB... you hear a warning chime. Don't ask how I know...lol

They may do something but I doubt super glue will do the trick. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It most certainly will. Superglue is cyanoacrylate or CA glue, which turns into essentially acrylic plastic when it is set. Quite a few years back, one of the TV news magazines did an expose on this, putting hidden cameras under the chassis.

One of my friends fell victim just recently. She brought her car in for a state inspection, they told her it needed over $500 worth of brake job. She called me and asked if that was reasonable. I ended up going over there and easily smelled the CA glue. I build RC model airplanes and use a lot of CA glue, so the odor is unmistakable to me. We ended up picking up a replacement cable and went to another shop to get it replaced and the state inspection done. She got with the BBB and posted a complaint against the first shop.

I thought people got shot for less than that in TX? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif) I've honestly never heard of that happening in my area.

The parking brake is a part of the safety equipment on the car & as such, it's essential that it work. If the car is under warranty, I'd INSIST that it be repaired or you'll have a discussion with the nearest Hyundai factory representative. In fact, if you had that problem with the earlier car & it was "brushed off" the same way, I would send a complaint to Hyundai - not all dealerships give the same quality of service & some need to have a fire lit under their back sides.

They were lucky it wasn't my car they tried to pull a stunt like that.

Sorry, didn't mean to hyjack the thread with this tidbit. Since the OP's SF should still be under warranty, I would definitely get it fixed.
