Hi,

I hate to post a problem as only my second post, but here it goes. When I push in the clutch pedal, I get loud grating/creaking noise from inside the engine compartment (not at the firewall). I had my wife sit in the car and pump the pedal, and it sounds like the noise is coming from within the engine somewhere.

The noise is a loud squeek/creak and does it on both the in-stroke of the clutch pedal and on the return.

Are there any suggestions? I did a bit of research on alldatadiy (I have a subscription), but it didn't really help. There are just too many parts I don't recognize.

I'm thinking throw out bearing. You have no other problems?

Yeah is it slipping at all when you're trying to change gears or not engaging at all sometimes?

The clutch is working beautifully. Starts and shifts are smooth.

I took it into a mechanic shop. He took a look at it and said that the pedal pivot was creaking. He greased it, and it was quiet for all of two hours. Now it's back to creaking. Any ideas?

try some penetrating fluid (WD-40, Fluid Film, Etc), work the pivot back and forth, and then maybe try a heavier grease.

If the noise is coming from under the hood, it may be near the clutch slave cylinder (called the clutch release cylinder on Hyundai's HMA service website). After we replaced our slave cylinder when the old one started leaking, the part where the push rod touches and pushes on the transmission lever was squeaking off and on. Some grease on this spot fixed it for us. Try a different kind of grease if it is the pedal pivot point.
