My owners manual tells me to change my "Automatic Transaxle Oil" at 105k miles. Am I reading this right?

I'll be changing mine at 30,000 miles. I've done this on every car I've owned and have never had a transmission problem. Shift quality even stays the same after 100,000 miles with frequent trans. fluid changes. I've owned GM, several Toyotas, a Subaru (current wife's ride has 100,000 miles on it and shifts like new), and now the Hyundai. I never went with the flush, only the drain-and-refill.

I live in Austin, TX so I'd say that is severe usage for about 3 months due to the intense heat. I think I'll change it every 30k miles just to be safe. I bought it with 36k and I have no idea if it was ever changed. It just hit 40k, so I'll do it this weekend. Thanks!

even if you dont live in, or drive in, "severe" conditions, it is a good idea to change it out long before 105k miles.. i, personally, am almost the very definition of "normal driving conditions" (all highway, cruise control, little to no stop & go, not highly extreme temps) and even I changed mine out before that (I did around 60k miles)..
if you wait to 105k, plan on never doing it

Thanks for all of your input.
I went ahead and changed the oil and the trans fluid this weekend. It was so easy! I have done this on several other cars and I have never done it so quicly or easily. I barely had to jack the car up at all. Hyundai really thought of the mechanic or DIYer when they setup this car. Nice job.

Sorry for the confusion. I do have an `08 Sonata 4-cyl automatic. I did a simple drain and fill of the auto transmission fluid using the Super Tech transmission fluid. I read the comment below on another site. The comment is from the makers of Super Tech ATF:
"The proper Super Tech product is the Multi-Vehicle ATF. According to our additive supplier, Super Tech Multi-Vehicle ATF is ‘suitable for use” for the SP3 specification."
If I did something wrong, please let me know!!!! I have about 100 miles on it now and it seems fine. Shifts smoothly and no strange noises or slipping.

QUOTE (MiamiLX @ Nov 18 2009, 02:10 PM) This comes from another Forum that mentions us! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) I sent Warren Distribution an e-mail for additional clarification. See response below.
The fluid is “not” approved by Hyundai but is “suitable for use”. Our additive supplier, Lubrizol, does the test work and recommendations for their formulations and additives we use. When a fluid’s characteristics and additive technology are consistent to the OEM product, our additive supplier makes a recommendation, “suitable for use” as to what transmissions a certain product can be used in. We do have licensed Super Tech products; Dexron VI, ATF+4 and Mercon V. The other ATF products are not licensed but our additive supplier has completed test work on the formulations and has made recommendations as to what transmissions they can be used in. The specification sheet doesn’t really cover individual transmission applications but gives a general overview as to the vehicle manufacturer that it covers so SPIII wasn’t an oversight omission. A few years ago, you could cover the entire market with three ATF fluids. Since then vehicle manufacturers have inundated the market with different transmissions and thus the increase in transmissions fluids to meet certain applications. The Multi-Vehicle ATF was designed as a true multipurpose fluid for accounts that wanted to cover the majority of the ATF market with a few fluids versus a fluid for each particular transmission which would be almost impossible to accomplish. I checked some of the major brand fluids and they also list their Multi-Vehicle fluids as “recommended for” or “suitable for use” claims similar to the Super Tech product. I hope this expanded explanation helps in explaining the fluid. All I see are comments regarding mileage, but no mention of time interval. My 06 Sonata LX6 has just over 13,500 miles on it. The fluid is still reddish in color and odorless even though the car will be 4 yrs. old in January. My service writer had "suggested" that I do a flush, but when I found fault with his suggestion he backed off and admitted that were I to have a problem with the tranny it would still be under warranty. What gives? Is it mileage and or time interval? I changed the ATF on my 06 Azera with 26,000 miles. That car is just 3 years old. Oh, by the way, service writer said the fluids deteriorate with age. Any comments would be appreciated. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif) Don

So the trans service is pretty much a "drain & fill," not a filter also ?

I did a quick search for the part and found one. Hyundai may not recommend replacing it, but it looks like there is a filter after all. Link: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?...ission+Filters)
