Hello, I'm new to the Hyundai community and I recently picked up a 2009 Hyundai Accent GS. I've been using 93 octane and I was just wondering if this was a good idea and the pros and cons of using higher octane in my Accent.

Thank a bunch=)

biggest waste of money you could ever spend. you drive an naturally-aspirated econobox, not a turbo-charged sports car. lol.

Wow, you guys can get 93 octane in FL? Sweet. But most definitely overkill.

There's a few Sunocos in PA that have 100.

There is one place, I believe in the Kirkland area, that serves 100 octane. But its stored out back and you have to specifically ask for it.

We have a 100 also, but all our normal stations have 91 max, because of the high altitude.

We have 110 octane here, its called the regional airport,15 mins. away. They won't put it in your car,but they will fill Jerry
cans. My muscle car buddies with 12.5 compression buy it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif) Cheaper than racing fuel like Cam II.

Most modern cars will adjust their spark timing to a point with higher octane fuel resulting in a very slight power increase. But only very slight.

The gas you probably got is crap, hence the rough idle.  It happens to me on rare occasions.  Topping it off with gas from elsewhere and maybe a bottle of fuel injector cleaner (Techron) may help.

I personally wouldn't waste money on anything other than 87...  I used to "think" my cars ran better on higher octane stuff before but could never really prove whether that was actually the case.  I then came to the conclusion that the oil companies certainly aren't our friends, so I see no sense in lining their pockets any more than I absolutely have to. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)  Even if I had a Genesis which will run on either (albeit detuned on 87) I'm tight*bleeped* enough that I would still opt for 87.
