This is my first post to this forum. I need a little advice/opinion on a new noise that has developed after a routine, preventive Timing Belt/Water Pump replacement. The noise can be heard readily from inside the cabin of the car. It seem to be coming from the engine bay from the passenger side. It is a buzzing noise that becomes higher as the enging RPM's rise. It sometimes stops when one stops accelerating.

The indy thinks it is the new parts being tight and will go away after a break in period. has anyone else experienced this? The vehiche is a 2005 Sante Fe, 3.5 engine. Thanks. Kevin.

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. The passenger side of the engine compartment is the side that the timing belt and water pump are on. Although I have never heard of a water pump needing a 'break in period' per se, it's more than possible. Give it a week and let us know how it sounds. At this point I don't think you're in any danger.

No water pump should need a break in period. and it should not make noise.
Take it back to the mechanic and tell them to fix it.
Maybe the belts are too right.
Did they also replace any of the pulleys?
Something is not quite right.

It could be the bearings in the alternator. When I've heard that sound, it sounded like a buzzing that followed engine RPM. Sometimes, when the engine speeded up, it would suddenly stop (sounded like brrrrrRRRP) then start again as the engine slowed down.

The 3.5 timing belt is a major PITA on the SanteFe. Lots of things to leave loose or not get installed just right. There is no breakin on the timing belt or the pump. Its not right, if it didn't make the noise before make them fix it.

I just had my belt changed about 3 weeks ago and I have the same problem. I'm going to take mine back. I'll let you know what I find.
