I think most people have the squeeky seatbelt problem. The answer is to prize off the black plastic part at the top of the seatbelt - comes apart quite easily. You'll see a spring inside which is the cause of the problem. Shove some grease in. Snap plastic cap back on. Problem sorted !

How much grease did you use, enough to pack the cavity around the spring? I thought I had a fix with powdered graphite behind the pivot, but no the squeak/creak is back. I'm taking my car to the dealers on Tuesday to have the clutch judder "looked at" as a first move to getting it fixed, I hope, so I'll ask them about the seat belt, and if no success I'll try some grease.

QUOTE (mobile @ Nov 20 2009, 02:12 PM) I have tried the card trick... did not work... and now I have just put the grease in, and that did not work either.
?? I cut a slot out from one edge of the cardboard to the middle. The cardboard stops the black, attaching unit moving. The creaking sound has gone but I still don't know where it originated from. How would you describe your noise; squeak, creak or something else?

How would you describe your noise; squeak, creak or something else? ahh ok I think I know what you mean.. mine is the "creek" sound as has been described.. not huge but a little irritating when radio is off.. when leaning forward a little or to the side ... Thanks for the feed back and I will have another go!

Oh no! I've got the creaky/squeaky seat belt back again. Two weeks ago my dealer replaced the seat belt after I had tried all the cures, oil, grease, washers, spacers, nothing worked. New seat belt, perfect for two weeks, just an odd click or two that I could live with, but now it's back, more of a creak this time, just with small body movements. I've just put some grease on the spring, seems better........time will tell. What is the permanent cure? Clutch juddering well today, life gets tedious don't it?

I have lived with the seatbelt squeak since getting my car in Feb, never even thought to take it back to dealer, I shall ask my husband to take a look at the seatbelt now that others have had the same problem and suggested some fixes. You must have a really good relationship with your dealer. At the moment I can't face going to my dealer feeling so let down that I am seriously thinking of getting shot of my i10 after my recent experience regarding brake pads wearing out in 3800 miles, dealer, charged for this as not covered by warranty. I today have a letter from Hyundai MD who is confirming that he is satisfied that it not a Hyundai fault, that means it's my fault I guess but no-one in Hyundai is able to point out exactly what part of my driving has caused this problem. Sorry if I have gone off topic but I was amazed that your dealer had taken the matter of a squeak so seriously. Just because a car is low priced it should not mean low expectaions !!! It's only when things go wrong that you find out how good a company is or not.

Treacle, I would take your car back to your dealer and get them to drive the car to hear the seat belt squeak for themselves. I have found my dealer very helpful towards my problems, but I don't know if I can wait for a fix for the clutch judder, and like you am seriously thinking about getting shot of it, but what to replace it with?..........

QUOTE (exatoz @ Nov 14 2009, 11:16 AM) A creak, not a squeak: My seatbelt, on the driver's side, was making a creaking sound. I mentioned this to the technician and he replaced the black, attaching unit at the top with a new one. Made no difference - still creaking - so I slid a piece of cardboard between the pillar and the attaching unit, and a result - silence! Soon, I am planning to replace the cardboard with some sort of discreet, rubber spacer/washer. I had a creak, so tried this solution. Used a small piece of mouse mat (I work for a company that makes them) instead of the cardboard. So far, no more creaks...... Cheers!

I put plenty of grease in, around the bolt as well as on the spring.

I used a silicon-based grease...looks and feels like vaseline......and packed in generally around the spring/plates area. Further, I reduced the "end float" of the mechanism on the pivot bolt, by sliding/jamming a very small slither of chamois leather, between the bolt washer and the plate...and greasing around this area slightly. The complete "mod" seems to work so far!
