I'm looking into making a custom audio enclosure for my subs and amp in the trunk. I've read a lot about buying do it yourself fiberglass kits online and other places, but it really seems like a difficult project. i dont know if its worth the time and effort. i priced the job at different pro shops, but its all expensive. has anyone out there done one before?

Hi :) ,

I haven't built an enclosure myself, but from what I've seen and read, in a lot of cases the fibreglassing is laid over boxed framework, usually of customwood or MDF (medium density fibreboard) or equivalent.

In some cases, there has been no fibreglass involved, merely the laying of vinyl over the mdf boxes.

A lot of really effective setups have been achieved with enthusiasm, raw materials and a jigsaw!

Be adventurous, get some books on enclosures, read some mags and go for it!

Have fun.

CHeers,

Andrew B) .

Alot of us just lay the board out have it cut and such. Then take kitty hair over it. Get teh board u want Particl or Louon. Then glue it cut it all that. After that take beach towel or not. Staple around ur box, then lay fiberglass over it, sand and paint.
