Alright, more like 3468cc

I have a theory to produce 3.5 liters out of the 3.3 lambda. It goes a little like this...

Since the 3.8 and the 3.3 are very similar, I thought, why not put the crankshaft from the 3.8 into the 3.3? (this is where the 3468cc comes in) This probably won't yield too much of a horsepower increase, but would definitely produce more torque.

So what else makes the 3.8 in the Genesis (than the 3.8 in the Azera) produce more hp/tq? (other than ecu tuning)

In the Genesis the intake cam opens earlier than the 3.3 and closes later than the "regular" 3.3/3.8. So if my understanding is correct about this, having the intake open longer will enable more air to be pushed into the cylinder. The 3.3 tends to run a bit rich, so more air will lean it out a bit. Might as well do the exhaust camshaft as well b/c there would be a bigger gap where both exhaust and intake valves are open if using the Genesis intake cam with the stock exhaust cam vs both i/e cams from the G.

There are other things to consider, but from the info I've gathered through hmaservice it seems possible. Then again, anything is possible with $...

What do you guys think?

I I I............. I dont know what to say here..... Well being the crank shaft from the azera/gen 3.8 and the 3.3 sonata are the same it would be pointless. if you looked up the P/N you would see that. Also depending on the year the cams on the sonata are only variable on one side where the Gen and Azera are on both intake and exhaust side. So putting one of those cames in might casue you some problems also lets add the pistons are different so you MIGHT run into interference problems. Also the ECU tune on the Sonata Azera and Gencoupe are widely different so even with the parts changed over if the theory would work the car would not have the gains to make the project worth wild. You want power do the Azera 3.8L swap I have done research and this is going to be the best bang for the buck besides nitrous. It was a good idea but if you thought it V33sonata has already researched it!! haha Good luck.

Granted, it would be a crap load of work... but how are the crankshafts the same? The 3.8 has a longer stroke doesn't it? **** you hmaservice! you shattered my dreams! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

what about turbo? I'm thinking two small turbos... maybe t25? 5-8psi each. All stock internals. Probably won't run to its full potential but doable right? I need your insight V!

LOL. You can do a turbo but with out a tune no one will know what it can handle again low boost on a rear mount setup most likely isnt goign to be worth the trouble either. Unless you go megasquirt?? I narrowed it down to nitrous or motor swap. Unless someone cracks the computer that's not going t to change.

I am saddened... WHY!?
