Hi folks,

I'm pretty new to the forum, as I'm working on fixing up my sister's 97 tiburon - has the check engine light on and the airbag light on. The Mechanic had told her that the airbag light was on for "some other reason" and that the airbag would deploy without a problem if needed. I'd like to at least understand what's wrong, if not fix it - at least for my peace of mind.

I found a decent post here on this particular issue:

Sounds like it could be some sort of seat belt release sensor built into the harness? I'm looking into this to try and find more details, but if anyone has been down this road I'd be all ears.

Thanks guys!

Dear fib,

Sure, you can try a reset of the Air Bag Light at the dealer and it just might work. I had an air bag light in a 2001 Sonata when 7 years old, and the problem was the seat sensor (registers if a person is in the seat) needed replaced. the dealer told me in my case that with the faulty sensor it was likely that the bag would not deploy in the event of a front-end impact. The sensor was not covered under warranty and expensive. But replacement fixed the problem.
