I've got 2008 Azera Limited - stock tires are 235/55R17. I've found a good deal on 215/60R17 winter tires, will those be a good fit?

I've used this calculator http://www.s4play.com/Tire-Wheel%20Combina...0Calculator.htm and looks like the fit is fine.

Let me know what you think.

Minus sizing is actually recommneded for winter tires, as the narrow tread bites thru the snow to the pavement better. As long as the overall height is the same, or very close, it should be fine.

I don't wish to hi-jack this thread but I have a similar question and thought it would be better to add to an existing thread than to start a new one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif)

Like DVDROM000, my Azera's stock tire is 235/55R17. I can save $400 by going with a 16" snow tire compared to the exact same tire in my stock size. I'm told by the seller that a 215/65R16 will fit my vehicle with only a very small difference in speedometer reading and less than 1/10th of an inch loss in road clearance.

So, my question is: What do y'all think? Go for it or stick with stock and pay the extra $400?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have 16" rims to use? Or were you planning on getting winter wheels to go with the 17's if you went that route anyways? According to my info, 225/60/16 is the stock size for the SE, so 215/65 is very close. .4 inches off on the over all diameter. Your speedo would read 60mph when you were going 60.8mph, so just a hair slow, too small a difference to notice. There's really no reason to go with a 17" snow tire.

Thanks for the quick response.

My Azera comes in only one trim level here in Canada which includes 17" 10-spoke aluminum rims with 235/55R17 tires. Because the rims are aluminum I'll be buying steel rims either way to swap out each season. I'd save about $25/rim if I go with 16" rims instead of 17". I'd save another $300 on the 16" tires (215/65R16) over the 17" version as well.

Thanks again for your help.
