My 01 tiburon has a problem on initial start up that it is really hard to turn. It's like almost locked and turns in a very jump way..for about a minute or two then steering is better. On first start up and sometimes even on a warm start.

I think it's just bad power steering fluid or it's out. But I just want to check here first and see what you guys think. Thanks

Dear Rootie,

Just due to your car's age, it is highly likely that the power steering pump is failed or failing. You can try to replace the power steering fluid with fresh, but be prepared to replace the unit.

Have you checked the fluid level? Check the belt? Check these first before changing the unit.

There should be about a half inch movement of the belt, if there is more than that then the belt is too loose and should be tightened a little. A loose belt could cause the problem you're having but it may not be.
