On my '09 Limited all four doors unlock when the car is placed into park from the D mode. I do not like this as I some times must wait at rr crossings with the car in park. Can this be re programmed by the dealer ?

Didn't we talk about this in another Forum? I know the Sonata can be set to lock itself when in motion, but

this is the first report I have read of it unlocking itself.

Probably a change on the 2009. MikeyTX, look in your manual and see if there's any mention of this.

I've been in a rental '09 all week and I can confirm this - annoying and quite frankly, scary feature. I can't imagine why they decided to do this. However, you should be able to have your dealer disable this "feature" - for free or at cost will depend solely on the dealer. But even if they charge you minimally for it, I'd say it's worth it.

Yes I have every manual it seems, and Mikey is right. I still see in the Yellow box you can open a locked door,

and push someone out with no need for unlocking it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) We have that feature in the 06!

Mikey and I were talking about our award winning Alarm system in another thread. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

After the first of the year, when I take the car in for an issue with the radio I will ask about disabilng this so called feature. Till then I will live with it. If someone else should discover a remedy before then, please let us know. As per the manual, the feature can be disabled. What I don't want to loose is the auto lock when the vehicle is put into motion. Just the unlock feature when stopped with the auto stick in park.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the two features are one in the same, as in all or nothing. I could be wrong, though. Good luck.

Spoke with the service mgr at my local dealer a few moments ago. They can program the locks to stay locked when the car is placed into the park position, engine running or not. I would still be able to unlock all with the master switch on the drivers door, the key fob or, an individual door simply by pulling the respective door handle as can be done now. Only takes the tech 1/2 hr. Dynamite !!

This is just funny to me, and I'm glad you can have it taken care to your satisfaction. We had many members that had to pay money for

the Dealer to activate the Auto Lock feature in the 06, 07 & 08 Model. However we did not have the Auto Unlock feature option. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

Originally you weren't able to have it that way, it was all or nothing.
We have some old threads here about it.

It was setup a little different then previous Sonatas, but I assume they made the change due to potential safety issues.
Please respond to this thread if you do indeed get it done so others will know via search, thanks.

Ok, the deed is done. Took all of about 15 minuets. Didn't even have time to finish my free coffee and donut. At least I can come to a dead stop, place the car in park and, not have the dang doors unlock. In fact, I can shut the car off with the car in park and the doors still won't unlock untill I toggle the master button on the door arm rest. Each door can btw, be unlocked simply by using the flip latch on the respective door.

Well worth the time IMHO. This way if I have to stop for any length of time and place the transmission in park, at least the dang doors won't unlock. Much safer and my s/o feels more secure.
