I really prefer to drive older cars, always have, never have and probably never will buy a new one. Cash for clunkers really **** me off because of the requirement to crush all the cars turned in. That's millions of parts people who drive older cars could use to keep theirs running, but then I think that is there plan. If they can't make us upgrade, they will render ours obsolete. Now today I was reading on my favorite auto site how the government is requiring a lot more new standard "safety" features. I really don't think they will be happy until the can actually control out cars themselves from a remote location. Sorry, my rant for the day.

Yell at the tree huggers. There won't be a "classic car" made after 1990 for the reason you stated.

Cash for clunkers was intended to get the low MPG/no cat cars off the road. Only the ones traded in have to be crushed, and I heard one of the guys @ the local junkyard say they have 6 months. Everything else brought in is OK. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

And welcome.

I'm going to play devil's advocate for a moment. These new laws really aren't all that bad....the new side impact pole tests are already required in the EU by EuroNCAP (European New Car Assessment Program) and have been for quite some time now. Ending the advocacy, as for the mandatory rear view camera and sonar feature, give me a bloody break. It's easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. Keep tabs on your kids.
2. Tell your kids not be stupid and play around/behind your cars.
3. Look behind your car before getting in and WATCH WHILE REVERSING (people really seem to struggle with this; apparently Starbucks and the radio are more important).

It worked for me and my parents...it can work for you and yours! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

Now, once they start mandating black boxes to transmit real-time data to a 'traffic law enforcement center' and issue tickets every time your car exceeds the speed limit, then I'll be up in arms. And trust me...if something isn't done to stop the train wreck that our once-great country has become, that day is fast approaching. Case in point: Oregon's commie governor wants to put GPS tracking in civilian cars to 'tax by mileage'. If they get anywhere near my Santa Fe with that tracking box, so help me God I will sue the pants off the state before they even know what hit them.

With lovemysantafe's input, I am going to say I think we have it pretty good in North America (So far) lol
