Hi All, don't know if anyones noticed this problem with the handling of the i20
My I20 petrol is 16 days old, have clocked 1200kms, since beginning I've been
having a problem with 2 things

1) There's a knock sound from the right steering wheel assembly when the car goes over a rough patch of road, however not on standard bumps.
it seems as though suspension or the steering assembly is loose, its more prominent in case the clutch is pressed and then one goes over the rough patch.
the workshop did replace a spring in the steering assembly but the noise is still there.

2) The steering is a lil hard, as after manouvering a turn it does not fully comeback but takes noticable manual effort. also while driving on a straight road it does not stay stable, if one leaves the steering, the car start slightly turing to either direction and has to be brought back.

Over all a great car with amazing jazz built in. its just the above 2 issues are bothering..

Hi vikmag. Can't comment about the knocking sound as I haven't experienced it. Then again, my i20 as only got around 300km !
One of the criticisms I had read about the i20 was about the feel of the steering and I must say it does take some getting used to !
I don't know what the technical term is but, to me, it feels like the front wheels alignment has been set so that they are dead parallel to each others as opposed to them slightly pointing 'inwards' which is (as I understand it) what is needed to give a 'stable' straight line drive ? If that turns out to be the case, perhaps a front wheels realignment could solve this ? On the other hand... it keeps you 'on your toes' when driving and the front tires will wear more evenly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i20 CRDI 2009: I have a similar problem added to it the steering wheel is quite tight. If you step on the gas the car veers to the right, if you release the throtle it goes to the left. Hyundai put a bush packing in something called as the yoke(which is present in the new i20's now and was missing earlier) the noise has considerably decreased but the steering is even tighter. They have not been able to solve the torque related steering problem.

i20 has an all electric power steering controled by the ECU. As you speed up the steering should become tighter and the wheels will remain in a straight line as you slow down the steering should be freed and smooth. However, I really cannot make out the difference as my steering is very tight.

My arm really hurts on long drives. If anyone else has noticed this problem please let me know.

V,
I've had my 1.2 i20 5dr Classic now for 3 days now & covered 200 miles.
I haven't experienced any undue knocking noises from the front end whilst driving over bumps, but I think that the car does have firm suspension (feels the bumps generally).

Yes the steering to me feels sensitive, but after driving for 50 miles or so, I have become accustomed to it & doesn't seem to bother me now. I have noticed whilst straightening up after a turn, does need a little manual persuasion on the steering wheel, prob an i20 trait.

V,
Stating the obvious, have you checked front tyre pressure? Should be 33 psi under normal loading conditions.

Vikmag,
Apparently few i20's seems to have some problem with the steering dampner assembly. As a result of which you hear those rattles while driving on bad roads or going over bumps.

Hyundai had sent a circular to all dealers to add\change bush in this assembly if any i20 has this complaints. They call it the "Yokepad+spring".My i20(Sep2009)make had this problem and the dealer added this pad\bush.

Now the issue is gone,or so I think. Will keep watching it for a while
