So. I have a problem with my car. It's a 1997 tiburon 1.8L base model. Standard. No cruise control.
I keep blowing the fuse for the brake lights.
I unplugged all the brake lights, hit the brake pedal, and the fuse blew.
I replaced the brake light switch on the brake pedal, and I still blew the fuse.
I AM using the correct rating of fuse.

The question is: What do I do next? Run a new wire from the brake switch to the brake lights?
I need your help, I can't continue driving around with no brake lights!

Thanks

Dear bennie,

I see no one with more electrical expertise than me volunteered. After you replaced the bulbs, are any of the bulbs blowing from high amp draw? If no, the problem is a short in a power lead between the brake switch (behind the brake pedal) and the two bulb sockets. You must have a wear spot on the power lead that is touching the car body or frame. Unfortunately, to see where this wear spot is will require pulling the seats and carpet out to trace the wire.
