I really don't like the color scheme of the 06 Sonata. I've been looking around the internet of all these other cars and how easy they can change the color of their gauge cluster...but when I finally get to the cluster's circuit board...I find the lighting schematics different than all the other cars. I was really bummed I couldn't really customize it as easily as the other cars. Does anyone have any information about changing the sonata's LEDs on the circuit board?

EDIT: I actually found it after looking at a bit older posts in search. It's going to be a pain soldering. How exactly would you remove the green LEDs and solder the new ones on?

You can replace led lights by yourself. It is not a painful job.
Order 3528 PLCC2 led from below link and ask anyone who knows electric circuit soldering.

Cool thanks for the info, especially the pics. Yeah looking at all these youtube videos, it doesn't look hard at all. The thing is finding out if it's on the right way. I don't have that kinda of set up that you have to test the LEDs tho.

It will void the warranty on the specific components you solder (i.e. gauge cluster, clock, HVAC, switches, etc.), but not on the entire car.

Aright, just did the conversion. However 3 SMD LEDs won't work. The two on the speedometer near the 120 and 160 MPH and the bottom one on the temp gauge. I know I had the polarity right and switched 'em all and even put them in patterns but to no results, even tried other LEDs that I still have. But as you can tell, everything else works fine.

I gotta say, it's really tight. You barely notice it, but it's kinda bothersome haha. HVAC Panels are going to be next... ;)

Looks good! How long did that take? Is the gauge cluster hard to take out?

It took like 15 minutes for me to take the cluster out cause I've taken it out before and knew all the quirks to it. A small flat head screwdriver will help out with the prying.

Took me an hour to desolder and solder of kinda tedious work. But took me like 2 hours to troubleshoot why the 3 LEDs aren't working. I still don't have it workin, but needed to study so hooked everything bak up. Just be sure whenever you disconnect any electronical components to disconnect the negative side of the battery.

Nvm got everything fixed. Basically put on new LEDs and soldered 'em again and workin great. Did some of the HVAC controls, I need to get more LEDs.

Question: How do I get underneath the LED screen display? Do I have to desolder all the joints? Hyundai just loves to make everything harder with all this soldering...

Here's the end result after fixing the cluster and adding the LEDs to my side controls:

Ok, finally got my new batch of LEDs in and was finally able to do the HVAC controls, but not the clock yet. Thanks to Arash for providing an easier solution to get underneath the LCD. All I need to do next is the clock, the steering wheel remotes and the gear shift. The results are really great too. Sorry about the quality, the phone kinda sucks at taking pics.

One of the LEDs died on my HVAC controls and I've done the steering wheel buttons, the dome light and put a couple cathodes under the dash. I still have to do the clock, but I don't see how you can get it out. I know there's two screws, I'm able to get the bottom one, but it looks like I might have to take the whole front panel off. ALSO, my dang CD player isn't working. Apparently one of the CDs got stuck and I've tried prying it with a flathead..but still nothing. This is just great.

If you remove the radio you'll gain access to the screw that's on the top of the clock. The "passenger airbag on" piece is a part of the clock...IIRC. It's one large piece not 2.

I removed my clock to change the LEDs. You have to remove the radio, center console, glovebox, passenger side trim, driver side trim, THEN you can get access to all the bolts, screws and clips holding the front fascia in. After I removed the front fascia I saw all the screws holding in the clock/front passenger airbag light. IIRC, it's one big piece. I don't think there's any other way to get it out because of the placement of the 3 (?) screws.

If you're comfortable removing the interior panels, you shouldn't have much difficulty. Although the above list looks long, it only took me 2 hours to get everything off.

Yea, just did the conversion. Thanks.

So while I had the radio out, I took a look at it. I removed the CD box and when looking at it, the second level is trying to go to the top and it's just stuck. I already demolished two CDs just to see the gears clearly, luckily they were just CD-Rs. But it seems as if it's a goner. Don't see how this could've happened, I might've worn the rotors out or something. I'm just going to have to listen to the radio stations til I save enough money for a much better receiver.

That's alot of extra pieces to remove. When I removed mine I took out the HVAC and the radio to gain the needed access. Then used a combination of a shorty screwdriver and a 90-degree bent driver and got it out.

Thanks, hideftv. It doesn't matter how much you have to fiddle with special tools back there, that's a lot easier than my way. If you have a good small digital camera it might help to take a few pictures back there just to see what you're aiming for.

Yeah it was a PITA, but I figured it was easier than removing all the necessary pieces. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

Heheh, don't feel like taking the gauge cluster out and swapping only one LED out.

As for the clock, I did the way hideftv used. Gotta be careful with the clock buttons though, those buttons just jump everywhere haha. Get it away from the dash board or you'll risk it being lost.
