I have a 1992 Excel LS carbed version and ever since I have owned it it has jumped, even had it checked by the Hyundai dealership...no fault found it was after the engine broke an exhaust rocker shaft that I replaced the distributor with a second hand unit from an auto wrecker that the problem stopped, the only thing that I noted was that the rotor was stiff when reversing the direction by hand, the replacement was free and moved easily, it could be the mechanical advance was gummed up but I have not attempted to dismantle the dizzy to see what the minor problem is, so there is something for you to have a look at, the other more obvious problem could be the igniter, they are a real pain as they tend to do funny things and can throw you off track, I note the igniter is the type that can be easily replaced, if you remove the dizzy it does not have a locating pin and you need to determine TDC on no. 1 before refitting to get the timing settled, I use a stobe light to get the final timing set.
