That's correct. Four cylinder takes 8+ and Six cylinder takes 11+.

Gallons? That is how much his G/F drank, thus the confusion! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

Are you doing a Flush, or a Drain & Fill. I have heard only 6 0r 7 Quarts come out. One guy got it

all out, but damaged his Sonata on the way down!

Then the Flush will be about 4 Gallons or 16 quarts. Craig Brooks told us it would be 12 quarts for the I4, & DDIX said 16 for the V6. You are looking at what, $300 plus!

If you do it yourself would you mind sharing the size of the drain bolt? Also if it was hard to get off or access? I have only read about the I-4's being flushed.

I would highy advise you to follow this procedure. Be prepared that you'll need ~12 qt of fluid for this, but it's a COMPLETE change of fluid in the transmission. Any "flush service" won't do it for you.

Are you getting paid for this advice? I provided 16 qts for a flush on the I4. I believe my TOTAL cost was much less. I'm sure you will find this info to be incorrect.....by way of a search. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

Yes it was DDIX, and he used 16, or did he? I originally wrote "I believe CraigBrooks", as I'm never sure what you say?

But V33 wants to use a very expensive fluid, when you used cheap er stuff. Just wanted you to know we are thinking of you!

i was going to have the flush done, but wasnt going to pay $175 for it.. i would have brought 12-15 quarts with me if i were to have had that done.. i did the drain & fill instead, and 6 quarts were used (of Multi Import ATF)..

All those hundreds of Flush vs fill posts, and you didn't flush after all? And since I assume only 6 quarts came out, why

didn't you do the process twice? Is mixing used old ATF with new synthetic ATF really a great idea?

1) you already mentioned that when i said i ended up doing the drain & fill.. problem was, all places around me wanted to charge me $100+ just to use the flush machine and if i wanted to use my own fluid, i needed to factor in the cost of that ($70 for 14 or 15 quarts)... they all gave me a hard time when i asked if i could bring my own fluid, so i said "f*ck off" to all of them..i dont trust the fluid they wanted to use.. only 6 quarts came out because it wasnt a flush.. 6 quarts is about all you will get out doing the drain method..

2) no, only did it once.. as for mixing new and old, what's the difference? i'd rather have more than half new fluid than none.. and since i had it done around 50k miles, it wasnt like i was at 100k miles and should have done it at all... i've had no problems with the tranny since I did it (more than 10k miles since it was done)

And that $100 isn't bad. If Brooks used 16 quarts for the I4, then about 20 quarts or 5 Gallons would be used on the V6. The special Fluid V33 wants to use is very expensive @ $10.95 a quart. If I was going to Flush with expensive Fluid, I
would start off with a Gallon or Two of SP3, and then add his Red Green, or whatever color he would like to use!

Not too long ago a Transmission Service with a Brand new filter was $29.95. My Armenian guy did not do any Flushes, aside
from a killer Power Radiator Flush, since he was a Radiator Shop too, and wow, much different than a hose! I think I would do what you did DDIX , but possibly twice? V33 is however having serious problems with his Transmission. Imagine that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif)

You don't need the flush machine to do a flush. Here's what I did. First drain the tranny via the drain plug (I thought it was a 22mm bolt). It doesn't matter if you get it all out or not. Then zip it back up and fill up the tranny with fresh fluid. Then remove the driver side headlight. On the radiator transmission cooler, there are two tubes. One on the top is the incoming tube. Fluid from the torque converter gets send into the cooler from here. The one on the bottom is the return line. This is the one you wanna remove. Move the hose clamp and remove the return line. Get a piece of 1/2" inner diameter tube to place on the radiator end and route the tube into a drain pan. Now have someone turn on the engine. The internal pump will pump out the old fluid from the torque converter. Let the thing pump out 2 to 3 quarts. Then turn off the engine and refill the tranny with 2 to 3 quarts of fresh fluid. Then turn on the engine and repeat this couple of more time until the fluid coming out is completely clean. Make sure you fill in between so you don't end up pumping air. When you are done pumping reinstall all the lines and the headlight. Then fill the tranny to the appropriate level.

or a buck seventy five later you can have the same thing done with a full flush.....while you watch the Cowboys win!
