I'm new to this forum, but since I just picked up a new Genesis Coupe Grand Touring V6 model, I thought this forum would be pretty informative, which I can see it will be. While the car is even better than I expected, both looks and performance, I do have a nagging problem I'm looking for advice on. The headlights are the first Xenon lights I've experienced, and they are definitely different from what I'm used to. However, the right headlight was misadjusted much higher that the left one, so I took it to the dealer for adjustment. Now, I've got some strange overlap where the lights are bright to a point and then there's a dimmer area in front of that, in addition to the step up feature of the lights on the right. I was told this is so the lights shine higher on the sidewalk. All I know is that it still is far from correct. My other friends with these type of lights have a definite line of light from both headlights that are even, not staggered all over the place.

My question is, can I just adjust these myself, since the dealer already screwed it up once already? I assume there have to be "factory specs" for adjustment, not just a "guesstimate" approach, but I'm not sure the dealer can really do it any better than me. I haven't looked yet, but I guessing there must be some adjustment screws by the light assembly. Has anyone else had any issues like this, or know where to look for adjustment instructions? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Without seeing the lights its hard to say if they are miss aligned or not but the passenger side light is supposed to be aimed higher than the driver side as not to blind other drivers. There are usually pictures of how the pattern should look in the manuals of cars with HID's. it should be sort like this:
___
| |
___| |
| |
| |

you should be able to google up a diagram too. the only thing i noticed was in the vidos i saw of the car at night the light hits the ground like 4 meters ahead of the car and they use the fog lights for the distance between.

sounds normal to me but after the dealer either didnt know what they were doing or was just trying to humour you they messed it up.

I have a Track model and have the same issue. However, the dealer did not touch mine. He is contacting Hyundai to try and resolve it or if it is normal. The problem he is having is they do not have another model with HID lights to compare it. They never saw or noticed this on any other car with HID's.
As of right now, they want to see the car at night. That will be after the clocks are turned back in Oct.

I will take a picture this weekend and post it.
Aside from light issue, car is great.

Joe

Here is a picture i took of my 3.8 with HID's. you can see the "step up" line you talk about, and although i have never seen it at an angle like that or so clear all cars with OEM HID's are like this. in other makes it tends to be a little softer and more rounded. my little text picture above was ruined by the removal of spacing but you can see it on the picture below. im surprised that the manual does not talk about this.

You can align the headlamps easily. There is a white hex head on the back that you use to adjust them. There is also an alignment hole you look into and you can see some marks.
