Love my Sonata (1,600 miles) but something is loose or whatever underneath that is annoying as heck.

Seems to sound off when I run over even small bumps with right front wheel...sorta' feels like something hitting under the passenger side floorboard.

And going down a slightly rough road, the car rattles like a trap.

Definitely something wrong

I'm taking it in...just wondered if anyone else had encountered this.

Possibly something wrong with the strut suspension. Not uncommon. Take it back to the dealer.

Just a suggestion. Check your seat. I have some kind of noise in the seat mechanism but it is not as annoying as you indicate.

Well you might have it identified.

I passed by Service yesterday...couldn't leave it..guy said the first thing they would do is check out the struts..."to make sure they're tight"...whatever that means.

Not real meachanical here... does the strut keep the wheel stable?

Yeah, basically. The strut integrates several different suspension parts into one compact assembly. Generally, a strut includes the coil spring, spring seats, shock absorbers, strut bearing, and the steering knuckle (there may be a few other items included in the strut, but that's all I can think about now).

If the bump/thump is caused by a loose strut, that should be covered under warranty.

I noticed that Monroe has struts for the 2009 Sonata now. Has anyone had them installed? Curious if they fixed the thunking noise that is common with these cars.
