I think it's a great car, in fact when they came out I wanted one, I really like the Yamaha engine the double plenum intake is a work of art. (IMG: http://home.pon.net/hunnicutt/images/91shoV6.jpg) I wish we had something similar on our Tib’s :crying: the 3.4 V8 was designed by Ford and Yamaha it had 235hp @ 6100 & 230 lb-ft @ 4800 and a 6800 RED LINE :w00t: but was only available in automatic The V6 was 5 speed only till 1993 and had 220hp @ 6200 RPM 200 lb-ft @ 4800 RPM I would still love to drive one

Ford hasn't made the SHO for a number of years now. IMO the best one was the first with the V6.
I breifly thought about putting an SHO engine into a Pinto. It can be done RWD with a production bellhousing out of I think an Aerostar. I had second thoughts and figured a turbo Duratec would be better(and fit better).

QUOTE(mfp @ Aug 20 2005, 08:45 PM) good info , is the engine used still or is production stopped .
The 3.0 and 3.2 V6s from the early SHOs are variations on the normal Vulcan V6 that has been in production since the first Taurus rolled off the line. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_SHO_V6_engineThe newer SHO V8s are where the first version of a new engine, still in production in Land Rovers, Volvos and others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Yamaha_V8_engine

I haven’t seen an SHO on the road in years. I owned a 1990 (3.0 liter / 5-speed manual.) It was definitely an engine in search of a car. For it’s day, Yamaha made a great engine. At 6.6 to 6.8 seconds to sixty, it was acceptably fast. Most of the power came on above 4,000 rpms, which meant it wasn’t the best car for drag racing. But above 100 mph, it could easily pull away from any stock 5.0-liter mustang. (My car was 100% stock, right down to the 16" wheels.) The car’s Achilles’ heal was definitely it’s clutch. It was extremely heavy with very poor feedback. In contrast, I thought the seats and suspension were exceptionally good. If you want performance, the automatics that appeared later in production were dog slow in comparison. Avoid them.
With regard to reliability, my car was very good. I bought it new and sold it with 78,000 miles. My only major problem was a broken engine mount. That may serve as a testament as to how hard I drove the car. (I beat the cr*p out of it everyday.) Based on conversations with other SHO owners, the SHO’s reliability was either great or disastrous. Oddly, those who claim they drove their car softly had the reliability problems. If you intend to purchase one, be sure to have a good mechanic inspect it. Those SHOs with poor reliability were really bad.

I always learn something new on the Forum. Who would have dreamed of putting a SHO engine in a Festiva? Had to quadruple the value of the car. I thought that putting a V8 in a Focus was 'buck wild', but I am impressed! See: http://www.streetracersonline.com/articles/rs8/Byron
