I have the 2009 limited sonata and have been wondering about the speed-sensitive wipers as i never noticed them change based on speed. I didn't even know what to expect, so couldn't test specifically that they would switch from intermittent to a more normal speed if you go fast enough. If what you say is correct, next time it rains, I'll give it a try.

QUOTE (normandelli @ Aug 29 2009, 04:54 PM) Depending on the speed of the intermittent wipe that you have it set on. If you're set on the last 2-3 clicks on the stalk, the wipers will operate continuously beyond a certain speed. Slow down and they become intermittent again. Thanks for the info, never knew it had that (IMG: style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif)

But it doesn't do it in every speed setting, I think only in the 2-3 higher intermittent speed settings, but not the last one, which actually keeps the wipers moving constantly.... Just try it, it's really a nice feature. Our '05 Accord has it too.

I am almost sure the above answers are wrong. The Intermittent Wiper & Speed Sensor is only activated on that first Click. Then there is a Low & High Setting that is not Intermittent, nor was it meant to be. I lived in the Tropics where it Rained every day, Miami Cuba. If you have your Wipers on High during one of the many Blinding Rain storms & your wipers stop, you wont be able to see when the light turns Green?

QUOTE (SonataRobbie @ Sep 1 2009, 03:16 AM) Actually, Miami, once you move the stalk to the Intermittent position, there's also an adjustable dial (see below) which has 6 or 8 clicks to adjust the speed of the intermittent function. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) I don't think the speed sensor kicks in in EVERY intermittent speed. As much as I noticed it's only in the 2, maybe 3 faster speeds, but not the fastest, which keeps the wipers turning constantly at low speed, like having it at the Low (2) position.

Yes I knew that, but what I thought I was saying is Setting # 2 Medium, and Setting # 3 High are not variable under any circumstances. If they were, and you had your Wipers on in blinding Rain, and you then stop, your Wipers would stop. When you take off you would not be able to see and could get killed. Medium & High don't adjust. I do like Robbies Picture better though (IMG: style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

I hate to bring up and old topic, but i seriously have not been able to notice any changes to the wiper's while I'm driving faster or slower. It's rained a lot here in PA lately and I've played with every setting (the various intermittent settings (using the special intermittent setting), the low setting, and the high setting) and I've counted the time in between the wipers going across the windshield and they do not go any faster or slow depending on how fast I'm going, nor do they change if I'm going at 60+mph and come to a stop light. Again, regardless of setting. Can anyone confirm exactly how they've seen it behave and what settings they've used to get it to work. Again, this is for a 2009 Sonata limited. Either it truly isn't available on the 2009 model, or the feature is not functioning properly in my specific car.

QUOTE (MiamiLX @ Oct 23 2009, 02:10 PM) There is confusing information in this Thread. On the first click to the INT, you vary the speed of the wipers by using that ring dial on the Stalk.
Then there is a Low Setting, and a High Setting. These do not adjust. The Sonata can't sense Rain. It only senses Speed on the first INT setting. I understand that the Sonata doesn't have rain-sensing wipers (it doesn't have the sensor for it). It is the speed-sensing that I read was supposed to be available but have personally never seen work. I have tested the wipers in the INT position and varied the (ring dial) settings from the maximum wait period, to the shortest wait period, and i never noticed a difference depending on how fast I was going. What type of behavior should I be experiencing? If on INT and at a stop-light, should the time in-between swipes drastically decrease as I pick up speed and go back to the original pace if I stop again? Again, I'm just curious if this truly is a feature that is broken in my personal car, or if it truly isn't available for the 2009 model? The manual says nothing about speed-sensitive wipers.

I have seen my 06 wipers change at the faster intermittent settings. I noticed that at a stop or slower speeds the wipers were on whichever delay they were set to but once a reach a certain speed they sped up to not have a delay on them at all.

QUOTE (mamamia @ Oct 24 2009, 04:34 PM) I suggest you check again.... At the highest int. setting the wipers will work with no delays while you're driving (same as when using them in LOW, no int. setting). But once you slow down to a stop, they will have their delay. That is what i meant to say. I also thought it worked the same way with 1 or 2 settings beneath that.
