Guys, I just bought a new Elantra (GLS Trim) which in India is sold with a 1.8L Beta Engine (127 bhp/ 16.6Kgm Torque).

Would like to know what is the fuel efficiency of the car in City and on Highways.

Also, what Octane Number Petrol is best for the car?

Regards,

In my country, available unleaded octane 97.

Well, I have the same engine, 1.8l beta auto tranny. Consumption pretty bad lately. A full tank city about 380-400km. Highway may last up to 530km. I am talking for about 50 litres of petrol here.

It's a choice 87, 89 and 91 Octane.

Most of the gas stations offer 87 and 91 but lately a new entrant is offering
89 at the price of 87.

Does the engine need a retune for higher Octane? Which one is peferable?

Fuel efficiency: if money and operational range is most important, convert any Hyundai's to LPG and select the best quality LPG injectors etc.. I'm preparing my Lantra00 to such conversion too. It's probably the only acceptable way to decrease costs for petrol fuel Hyundai consumption up to 65% (propanbutan) or even 55% (cheap natural gas) and relatively maintain horsepower. And you will make something good for our polluted earth :)

try http://www.lpg-kits.com/hyundai.htm

My chief barrister has 2 newest Benz E class 4,0 and 5,0litre, both converted into LPG, driving 60kmeters/year and is satisfied. It's true that even if you buy the highest quality LPG engine kits, horsepower lightly decreases around 5-15%. But I think everyone who's asking for fuel efficiency of his car doesn't search highest power solution simultaneously. If so buy Honda VTEC engines rather :P
