I would think that the info that the dealer wants would be within the VIN of the vehicle, If you give them the VIN number they should be able to find it that way. Yes you should be able to do this at home proivded that you have something to support that corner of the car, you will also need a hub puller, pry bar, ball joint spreader, a work shop manual and a few hours of your time. Don't forget to put a little grease around the tranny shaft seal before reinstalling the new shaft in to the tranny, otherwise you run the risk of burning out the seal the moment you drive the car. Hope This Info Helps You, Good Luck !

There are several threads on here about CV Boot removal which should help. The only thing we are not sure of is if the CV joint will 'knock' off the end of the driveshaft or not. Haynes and the Hyundai site say to change the CV Boot by dismantling the inner joint to get at it which implies the outer joint cannot be seperated from the shaft. But if you can buy the joints, then I guess they must seperate.

There is 2 sorts of outer CV joints: first with 23 inner splines and second with 25 ones. On my car (1996 lantra) the first type (23 splines) of CV joint is set.

Does the old outer CV joint just 'knock off' from the driveshaft if you give it a blow with a hammer/mallet? The Haynes manual suggests dismantling the inner joint to replace the outer CV boot which seems a lot of work if you could otherwise just knock the joint off. Sometimes Haynes get it wrong which I think is the case this time but I would like to know for sure whether the outer CV joints knock off.
