QUOTE (dltmdgud @ Jul 22 2009, 11:17 PM) So I should get my esi key within a few days,
where did everyone get their key cut?
does home depot do it?
should I look for a lock smith? Well, the locksmiths I went to seemed to be really confused.. I ended up getting a dremel, cutting my original key and tracing the key outline provided. It was a pain. I originally thought that my key had an immobilizer chip like the instructions stated so I was wary about cutting. But, turns out it was just the black plastic. See this post.

I dont know how can a locksmith get confused in cutting the key really. I went to a guy that was likt 19 years old, summer worker at the local locksmith store, and he had my keys cut in like one minute. The imobilizer in my key was a pain to get out but i made a small cut on the plastic and than just broke it free. I think the whole thing took 10 minutes for both keys really.

LOVE IT!! This might be a repeat question, but I just want to clarify that the Ebay link, will work for an 09 model? The link says up to 08 models. I'm guessing there is no transponder chip in the 09 key? How is the quality of the flip key? Does it feel like the Hyundai logo might come off in time(cheap glue)? It's really hot in Texas and something like that would happen in extreme heat conditions. Also I thought of getting one of these for my girlfriends 08 Azera, I searched and found the really expensive one on the korean parts website- $135 is way to high. I wouldn't mind $50 since it has a transponder chip in the Azera key. Any help would be appreciated greatly. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif)

I bought the version from Geis Store on Ebay and the blanks wouldn't work on my 2009 Sonata. The blank was cut on a machine at Ace Hardware, but the Geis supplied blank was much thinner then the OEM Sonata key. The cut blank key only opened my glove compartment, it would not open the door or turn in the ignition. Munk I believe, had to custom cut his stock OEM key to make it work on his. I did the same but the end result was a little crappy looking, I mean having to cut and shape the key is pretty difficult. Now some here are saying they had their blanks cut from Geis and they work so I don't understand. Is my Sonata that different then theirs? Not sure but seems a little strange......

QUOTE (V6 Sonata @ Jul 24 2009, 08:45 PM) Munk posted some pictures above and he has a 09' im sure it will work fine.As far as there being a transponder chip im not sure i was actually going to ask that same question about my 06' but i think 07'-08' are the ones with the transponder becuase i have a copy of my original key i got made for 2 bucks and its works perfect. The key on the korean parts website seems a little to blah for me and yes price is way to high ebay one just is a lot nicer all around hopefully this was helpful i cant tell you about quality being that im still waiting for my set to come but i cant wait to get them! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) I totally agree on the price part, but since I got it for cheaper I have a different situation. but I would have to disagree on the quality part. I hear the quality is ok on the ebay key, and worth the price, the korean key may not be worth the price from KAI, but definitely has a greater quality work. The key looks awesome, looks factory OEM, there are no plastic pieces hanging out anywhere, the buttons are rubber but have a very solid feel, the flip is very smooth, and the flip unit is a very nice piece of metal, even comes with rubber stickers that cover the screw holes, and makes it look 100% luxury brand.

i360 is 100% correct. I first took it to a locksmith and had it cut, but he screwed it up and I never got a chance to see if the blank they supplied me with was good or not.
I went and had an extra key cut (no transponder chip in the key for my '09, by the way) and took a dremel to it, cutting it to the exact shape of the blank. Took me about an hour, but if you're patient, it's very easy.
And yes, it can go on a key ring, there's a small hole built into the bottom of it that you can put a ring on. Look in my last picture, the one with the key in the ignition. You can see where the key ring goes on the bottom right of the keyfob itself.

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Patience, my friend. USPS is SLOOOOOOOW and very unreliable (just like all the other shippers). I've never seen or heard of a "Missent" message from them, though. My guess is that they either routed it incorrectly, or the seller messed up on labeling or postage somehow. If the seller hasn't done something specific to upset you already, don't discount them yet. Give them a chance to make it right first. Good luck.

Then it finally came almost a week after that. I know this sucks extra for you though since you've been having so many issues with the car lately! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
