03' Hyundai Elantra GT all stock.

Turned the key the other day and it turned over slightly before sputtering and dying. Happened a few more times after that.

Tried to jump it, no dice.

Now when I turn the key, all I hear is a rapid clicking noise and with every click the dash idiot lights blink on and off in rhythm with the clicking.

Electrical system seems to be working fine... lights, stereo, etc.

Is this the starter? How much can I expect to pay for this (tight budget- job issues)

Thanks for the help!

Check how much volt the battery is giving out, If it's high even under load then the starter is shot/ seized and will need to be replaced. You could try and tap the side of the starter with a bar as someone is turning the key to start the engine at the same time . If that works then your starter is in need of being replaced. Hope This Helps , Good Luck.

This sounds more like a dead or dying battery. The symptoms you describe are all typical electrical low voltage symptoms.
measure the battery voltage with out the vehicle running (assuming you got it running).
If less than 12,get a new battery.
Does it start if you jump the car?

I agree with the battery thing... be sure to check the wires and terminals for corrosion- sometimes a good cleaning or a new battery cable is all it takes.

sounds like ur battery might be dead. try jumping it to let it charge for a while, or buy a new one
