I'm thinking about getting the ESI switchblade key,

http://www.koreanautoimports.com/store/pro...roducts_id=3300

but my remote doesn't have the LED on the top

https://www.remotesandkeys.com/ProductDetai...oductCode=7282A

however the previous models 2008 and before,

https://www.remotesandkeys.com/ProductDetai...oductCode=7280A

have LEDS on there, and all the numbers on the back match the ones on mine.

Do you think the 2008 remote can replace my 2009 remote?

Also to get it programmed, I read here that I need to take it in to the dealer,

and it will run me about extra 40 bucks.

Do some dealerships do it for free?

It will fit just minus the LED being used, make sure it has the panic button on the back and the three buttons on the front.
More importantly make sure the blanks they supply are able to be cut and work on the Sonata.

I ordered a similar version on Ebay but the supplied blanks weren't thick enough to work on the door lock or ignition, but did lock-unlock the glove box... lol

As for the Keyblade I'm not sure but hopefully it'll work.

As for the LED I actually want it to be there, so that's why I was wondering

if the 2008 version will work

As long as the codes on the back on the OEM remotes match then it should, but i'm not entirely sure.

Seems like more added expense (new remote + programming) to get the LED to work.

If you do purchase the switch-key let us know if you can get the blank cut and how it works.... Thanks!

If the numbers on the backs of the remotes are the same as you mentioned, they should be interchangeable.

As for the programming, it does indeed have to be done at the dealer. Most of them typically charge for 1/2 hour of labor. I have heard of some dealers doing it for free (since it really only takes about 5 minutes). My dealer isn't one of those - it cost me $40 (I bought my car used with no remotes, bought 2 new remotes on eBay and paid the dealer to program).

Also, as I've mentioned before in other posts, you MUST bring ALL remotes that you wish to have programmed to the car (even if some of them are already programmed) at the time of reprogramming. When a new remote is programmed to your car, the codes for all other previous remotes will be lost.

I agree with i360 on the cost vs. functionality thing. I personally wouldn't pay $60+ for the new remote(s) and programming in addition to the blade key, but that's just me. If you insist on having the LED, more power to you.

Thanks for all your info and opinions,

the remote I saw a new one on ebay for about 13 bucks, and hopefully

the programming will be free at my dealership, if not

I'll try switching the LED version internals with my own, and tell them

it's my spare, and it doesn't work.

As for the key I'm getting it for about 60 dollars, because

I'm actually ordering from ESI directly from Korea

(I am Korean for those of you who want to know)

So if everything goes smoothly my total expenses should be about 75

SO MAJOR UPDATE!

I ordered the remotes from korea

I ordered them from this Korean website,

the remote itself was 45000 won, and

shipping was around 14200 won (it's kinda cheap

because I ordered them with some other items [non auto])

total 59200 won which is about $46.53

less than HALF OF KAI price.

I am extremely excited, and I think I will order

and program the remotes with the LEDs with the money I saved

looks good. plastic is a bit hard, and i am worried the plastic may crack in the future, but for the price it is great! only cost maybe $2 to have the key cut at Ace Hardware.

This is the one I bought BTW but the supplied blanks don't work on the 2009 Sonata.
Our Sonata has a thicker key...

Oh he is....

I told him about what I had to do to get it to kinda work.

- Got blank cut, but too thin... Will lock/unlock the glove box!
- Decided to cut my spare up but needed to buy Dremel bits that will cut the key
- Took my spare and cut/shaped it with a Dremel, this was a huge task to shape it like the blank (btw)
(Out a spare key)

Got it to work but looks cheap due to near impossible cuts with angles and a ridge.

Just told him of the luck I had and he refunded my money completely, and I didn't even ask for it.
Very stand up guy...

Its also why it doesn't list the 2009 Sonata under his auction.

When you ordered, which one did you choose? Sonata? or Sonata Transform?
