Hi guys, I just wanted to ask people to share their experiences with the different brand of alternators in general. However, I am interested in knowing about the quality of bosch alternators. After looking it online I haven't found many forums talking about Bosch alternators, so I'm assuming it's a good brand.

I heard the most complaints from the Autolite brand.

Feel free to pitch in your two cents!

Hmmmm, ive been fortunate to never have to change an alternator. However, I used to buy Bosch spark plugs for my old dodge stratus (what I had before the sonata) and was constantly replacing them. Maybe its a dodge thing, but the mechanic at the shop I bought parts from said not to buy Bosch anything because the quality was not good. Well, just what I was told about Bosch, and experienced with plugs. I bet other people will have more feedback than me.

Years ago I replaced the alternator on my old Audi with a Bosch model and it lasted fine. I just had to replace the alt. on my Sonata (it was sort of killed while the car was being worked on at the dealer for a separate issue) and the dealer recommended the OEM reman model over a Delco, and he installed it for a discount at $175 due to the circumstances.

One thing I learned was that Hyundai does have an alternator rebuild kit available that includes bearings and diodes, etc. So you could actually rebuild your old unit or the dealer could. Or, there are plenty of automotive electrical repair shops that could rebuild or swap your existing unit.

I'd go for the best combination of price and warranty. If a Bosch unit is very costly, I myself wouldn't do it.

I heard they are FREE at the Dealership, covered under the 5 Yr, 60 Thousand mile Warranty.

I don't suppose that would do much good for the OPs 1999 Sonata, or hyperlexis' 2000 Sonata, now would it?

And I didn't even have to use the search box to obtain that information! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

No, that is why I asked if this thread could be relocated. If they still need to talk about the 1999 Sonata,

or Bosch Alternators, they could do it for example in the 1999 Sonata Board, PM each other, or here would be good.

This Knight fellow posted two Bosch Threads in two days on the 4G Sonata Board. His reason, because the 4G Sonata

Sub Forum is the # 1 volume forum. We invite everyone to visit us, and if you have a question about the 4G NF Sonata

let us hear from you. Except off topic posts, or the dandy poster who told me to get lost! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)
