I might be buying a 2008 Sonata in the next few months with a maximum of 60,000KMs on it. My question is to all owners of Sonata`s. If the car is well maintained what is the total lifespan of the car meaning how many KMS will this car max out at before having to be put out to pasture or brought behind the barn and shot lol... But seriously, is it as good as Toyota? A friend of mine has a 2002 corolla with over 300,000 KMS on it with very little maintenance.. Thanks in advance fellas..

I had a 95 Toyota Camry before I purchased my Sonata. The only reason I mention that is that I regularly maintained that car and it eventually fell apart after 14 years of use. I would expect the same for my Sonata provided that I regularly maintain it as I did my Toyota (e.g. oil change every 5k miles and follow service manual). That being said, buying a used Sonata will net you the remaining 5 yr/ 60K mile warranty and not the 10 yr powertrain warranty. So make sure you take any used Sonata to a mechanic you trust and have them put it on a lift for a quick inspection.

The 2.4L sonata engine was designed by 3 car manufacturers as a world engine. The tolerances they asked for on spec were with intention to creat a 300k mile engine.

I dunno about the auto.

My Sonata has 63k miles, 6k mile oil changes with syn, and timely auto tranny fluid changes. Shifts great and does not use ONE drop of oil in 6k miles.

I have 68,000 kms on my 3.3L (2007) - still feels like new. Dyno oil changes every 5,000 kms or 3 months. Transmission liquid flushes every 24,000 kms. Nice car, however, acceleration is not satisfactory for me, but it is just programming - car itself is very good quality.

If your buying it used, try and find one with the least amount of miles on it. Under 60K miles, any issues take it in right away for warranty work. Ask for the service history on the car too. Don't pay more than $12K USD for it, even if it's a Limited.

60,000Km works out to just under 38,000 miles on a vehicle that is 2 years old, translates to just under 18,000 miles a year... Depending on who you talk to, average annual mileage is between 12,000 to 15,000 miles (at least here in the U.S.); so that Sonata is a bit on the high side of mileage for its age, however, it is not extreme. I would think that you should be able to get the car for a really good price, so as long as you are happy with what you are getting, I would say that it is not a bad deal. I am sure that you will find that a 08 Sonata with 60K Km on the clock will be a whole lot less than an 08 Camry or Accord with similar Km's.

BTW, your friend has an 02 Corolla with over 300K Km on it? That is over 23K miles a year? What is your friend doing? I know Canada is big, but that is some serious annual mileage! Gas must be cheap up there! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink2.gif)

From all that I've been reading, from my 3.5 year experience with this car, also owning an '05 Accord, and after leasing 3 Camrys in the past ---- I feel confident enough to claim this current generation Sonata is as good as the other two.

Hyundai is the company who is "trying harder" -- and it shows, big time. All their new models are getting rave reviews.

You at least get to drive your commute... I have to take the DC Metro (parking in DC is too expensive) which is now, especially fun! Not... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/crying.gif)

Atleast they extended the metro out closer to you on the blue line or if you take the Orange line, I bet that New Carrolton parking garage fills up quickly. DC is not that bad on the weekends, but they are slowly changing every street over to those pay boxes.

Atleast we have metro and buses, some places are horrible.

New Carrolton... I pay an extra $55 a month on top of the $4.25 a day to ensure I can get a space there because it is full by 8am... Oh, and for that privilege, I also get a Greyhound bus station, and the bus stop where the Prince Georges County Department of Corrections comes and picks up their community works program folks. Also this is where they "drop" off their releases so they can catch the Metro... Really nice place... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the two times somebody tried to break into my old Mazda... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)
