It's a real shame how the cops in some areas have nothing else to do but spoil everyones ability to add things to their car to improve the way it looks. at night it almost as if the car is driving by it's self, as well as keeping people away- most people don't screw with a car that they can't see in the windows when driving because they don't know how many are in it or who is driving it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)
That's exactly WHY the cops around me will pull you over. If they can't see who's in it or how many, you will get the "Driver, put your hands out the window, open door from outside and step out. Passenger, Hands out window, etc. and you will be facing multiple weapons aimed at you during this time so you BETTER NOT FLINCH OR MAKE ANY SUDDEN MOVES!!!

I like this. I like it a lot. Do most tint shops carry this, did u bring it in, or diy?
I sent Huper Optik an email to see who carried it. There was only one "close" to me (in the city) who does some HIGH END cars for high end clients (The Art of Tint). Many don't carry it because yup, it costs more (a little more than double my local guy) but I was going for the performance factor. I can tell you it is a big difference in heat between my Sequoia with Llumar HP 35 charcoal and the Sonata with the Huper Optik. I definitely prefer the Sonata on hot sunny days.

Pics can be found at photobucket here http://s700.photobucket.com/albums/ww3/Sequoiasoon/Tinting/ because I'm NOT resizing all these to post here.

And yes these are CLOUDY DAY pics, sorry. Maybe sun will be out later or tomorrow and I'll grab a couple.

Got them done. Thanks for everyone's suggestions! I liked the Huper Optik a lot, and I asked the tint shop guy about them. They don't carry them so I just decided to go with the 35% all around, and pray I don't get a ticket. Ok, well everyone posted there pics to help me, so I figured I'd post up the results.

Thanks everyone!

The level of tint should be in proportion to how bored the cops in your area get. I did my Tiburon at what I thought was a legal 35% tint, not thinking about the little tint that's already in the glass out of the factory. The fact that it was a bright yellow car with a black interior made the tint look even darker, but in our sleepy little burb there's far more drug activity and people shooting each other for the cops to bother with tint.

But I got got one sunny Sunday afternoon, puttering along at the speed limit in a more rural section of southern Maryland. State trooper pulled me over thinking my tint was too dark and I had to get it metered at the DMV where it came in at 26%, too dark. I wound up pulling it all off and getting the fixit ticket taken care of, and sold the car before feeling the need to re-do it.

The Sonata is done at 35% but since it's a darker body (Deepwater blue), more window area and that awful grey interior, the windows don't look all that dark. It's better than factory, but I'd love to see it at 20% or maybe even darker. But I got spooked by that traffic stop in the Tib so I'm not going to chance it. I don't want to give the police any excuses to pull me over.

Anyway here it is at 35% (photos taken back in 2006 right after it came out of the tint shop) and you'll probably agree, that's not dark enough

Hey Claff,

I live in Crofton, MD... Which shop did your tinting and how much? Looks like they did a nice job... You happy with it? Is it holding up?

Thanks,

We tend to be a little more diplomatic when it comes to a police officer pulling you over for what ever reason. Unless their is something wrong with the vehicle registration they do not unclip their gun holster when they approach a vehicle (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

woooooah Canada! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) I think our cops do a fine job, and when it comes to there security, i'd rather them point a gun and ask questions then not. Just to be safe. There are to many crazy people in the world not to be careful. As much as I dislike the no front tint law (I think you can still see through fine enough up to 35%) I understand why the have it, so the cop can see you when he approaches the vehicle and knows your not getting ready to hurt them. And generally no one gets shot, but its better to be safe than sorry especially in large cities with gangs such as chicago.

They did a nice job Cpt. I'm sure you'll have no issues with the cops... In anycase, my shop gave me a receipt saying that they put 35% on them just in case the cops did pull me over. Now...on to the rims.

This was done by "Total Eclipse" here in Waldorf, and I think they're still around. They did the Sonata 35% all the way around for a hundred bucks, of course this was in 2006. Overall I'm happy with the job aside from one air bubble in the back window that they said would go away, but it hasn't yet. Should I keep waiting? Seriously, I don't sweat it, the car's a workhorse rather than a show car.

So, I have an appointment to get my 06 sonata tinted this wens. I was wondering if people who have this done wouldn't mind uploading a pic of there car and telling me what %'s they went with. I'm trying to decide what the best look would be. I'm in IL so i'm not supposed to tint the two front windows, but I think if I go with a lighter shade, I might not get a ticket. Well, thanks all!
We just tinted our 06' Sonata last week. It looks great! I did all the rear windows at 15% tint and the two front windows at a 30% tint. It is illegal to have the front windows tinted in California but the shade I had put on is not really dark but it does help with the suns rays. I have had police pull up next to me and they never did a thing. You can see the driver and passenger from the outside. At night it looks even better. The kids love being in the dark with the darker shade in the rear. The next shade for the back was 5% which is just what they put on limo's but if you get your car done that dark, be prepared to open your door when you back up at night.

The pic of the rear window makes it look like I got the limo tint (5%) but it is indeed 15%

By any chance, do they have restrictions on how dark you can tint windows in Korea? I know here in California, they are strict if you do get a cop on a bad day. I was pulled over once in my Mustang and when the Officer realized he made a mistake, he walked around my car to find something and by the time ha got to the passenger side of the car, my window was not all the way down. By now you can figure he gave me a ticket for it, oh well. I did have 15% all around the car. This time I did 15% in the rear windows and 30% on the front. I have pulled up next to police cars at stop lights and stop signs and no problems yet (knock on wood). How hard is it to see at night with 5% all around? Looks good to me

There must be a lot better lighting at night on the roads in Cali as compared to where I drive. All my cars get brighter and additional lighting just so we can see better (especially deer at a distance) Many of the highways and side roads have no street lights so when it's cloudy /no moon it's DARK. I changed/added back up lights to mine and friends vehicles so you could see backing up and that's with the 30-35% tint. The Sequoia has 15% factory rear and it's impossible to see behind you at night with factory b/u lights on these roads.

5% on the front windshield would look awesome but for me would be like going back to halogen AND wearing my sunglasses while driving. Just not going to see very much causing a saftey hazard to myself nevermind the rest of the people on the road. There's a reason they classify as "visible light transmittance". 5% tint only allows 5% of the light to come through aka 95% of light for your vision blocked.

Llumar makes a tint for windshields that blocks the UV and IR rays but is still basically clear Llumar , I'm sure the other companies do also. I know my friend got a 70% on his windshield many years ago. Problem was that it was a metallized HP version. When you wear Polarized sunglasses you often get a rainbow effect from these tints and it was VERY annoying driving during the day that way. Much cooler temps and reduced glare sure but that rainbow sucked.

I don't know how you got away with 5% tint on your windshield? There is no city in California that would let that go. I want to see a pic with the 5% on there. I just don't believe it until I see it for myself. Anyone that has there windshield tinted would get pulled over in a second. I am not calling you a liar, I just want to see a pic please.

"In Missouri, "Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line."

I think the AS-1 line is the bottom of the blue tinting.

The AS-1 line is noted (etched) on the far side edge of the windshield, approximately six inches from the top of the glass. It will have the letters AS-1 and an upside-down T symbol showing the location.

BTW, Texas allows tint to be 6" from the top of the glass OR to the AS-1 line, whichever is higher.

Also, personally, I think tint on a windshield looks extremely stupid, but that's just my opinion. My opinion wasn't the same when I was 16. I had it done to my car at that time. Looking back, I don't know what was wrong with me.
