Went and argued with them this morning. Showed them the recall I printed from here (thanks for posting this guys, btw). They gave me my money back plus part cost. Then they inspected it to make sure I did it right since it was a safety issue. I was happy, but they still are ripping people off. Especially since its a ten minute repair. There labor must be like 165 bucks for ten minutes, because the part cost $5.30 and they wanted $170 to install.

Hey, calm down, these are CAR DEALERS, you know? These are TOUGH times for car dealers, you know.

At least they didnt tell you that it would make your car not start properly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) I think thats the people who are really running a scam or just dont know what the heck there doing

But, it looks like the car dealers have adopted a similar philosophy -- "Never let a recall go to waste" (make a little money)

They may be playing with fire, since recalls are mandated and governed by federal law and regulation. Maybe a few calls to NHTSA, or somebody like that, are in order.

My 06 Sonata wouldn't start today. Cranks but doesn't start. Could the brake switch cause this to happen.

Battery is ok car turns over. Still under warranty so I will have towed to dealer tommorrow. Looked for obvious causes but found nothing out of place. This is just a educated guess but I'm thinking fuel pump. With modern cars it's hard to tell without a garage full of high tech tools.

Mine was loose causing the car to have issues turning over but either way was replaced.

Has anyone received any notice of this recall in the mail? And has anyone had any issues with the dealer performing the recall service without a notice from HMA? I know the dealers seemed touchy about this when the OCS recall came out a while back.

I ask becasue I'm at 71,800 miles and my ESC OFF and ABS lights have been off and on for the past few weeks. I've confirmed that when the lights are on, those systems are indeed NON-FUNCTIONAL (fortunately, I didn't hit anyone or anything, but it was a bit too close for comfort). I haven't received a notice in the mail yet, but I'd like to have the dealer do this on Friday. Do you think I'll have any trouble?

We had both cars done at our dealer no problem. I just called them up and said I read about a brake switch recall. They did both cars the same day, it took about 20 minutes per car.

They did mine with no problem, however I did have to request it (I think it was around the time the recall was issued). My sister has an 06 GLS which was taken to the dealer (different one) probably about three weeks ago. They didn't mention the recall or perform the replacement on their own (I told her to ask, but guess she forgot).

Found out that it was the fuel pump, should be done in a couple of days pump is back ordered. They gave me a loaner so no problem. Dealer also changed brake light switch without me even asking. Not to happy about pump failing but on the bright side my dealers service department has been great.
