Today, I went to my local dearlership here at Fairfax Hyundai (Fairfax, VA), to have my sunvisor replaced under warranty. They notified me of a Hyundai Recall that went out this week for the brake switch in the Sonata. They informed me there is a possiblity the rear lights might malfunction and stop working. It was about a 10 minute wait longer to have them replace it.

Just an FYI, the guy said people should call into see if they are under this recall and letters should have gone out.

Hope this helps. Wouldn't want anyone to get rear-ended at night.

You are 100% right! Here is the Recall Bulletin if anyone would like to view.

Wait, is this the BREAK SWITCH that's been the culprit of all kinds of other weird malfunctioning we've been reading here lately?

Miami, they actually put out a recall now.. (in April)... my wife's Tucson had the ESC Off light go on the other day (cleared once re-started).. if it happens again, i will probably be taking it to the dealer for replacement...

A few months back, mine was acting up. the ESC OFF light would come on and maybe something else I can't remember. Took it in, they said it was caused by the brake switch. They changed it, no more ESC OFF light. Amazing how everything is tied together.

Break or Brake -- You NEVER make an Italian woman angry. 'Specially when she's from the SOUTH of Italy.

SERIOUSLY....

This is major. And I believe it affects many THOUSANDS of Sonatas (and other Hyundais), and needs our attention.... I'm gonna check it with my dealer before taking her in for her next oil change, which I originally planned to have my local Shell guy perform but not this time...

Absolutely mama on all counts, but, I just got a Dealer Service last Week and was told there are no open recalls on my unit.

However I am experiencing no symptoms from Dash, and always try to check my Brake lights. First do a visual inspection

and then at night observe your lights & 3rd light at any store with Glass. Hopefully the site you pick is dark. Perhaps these

items are not as serious as it seems on paper. Unless you are having problems. I'm more worried about Bulbs burning out.

As well you should be - both brake bulbs (the lower two) are high brightness bulbs with only a 400 hour life - I had to replace both of mine.

Yeah they are dual filament bulbs. The good thing though, they are only about seventy cents to replace, and can be

done quite easily. Within seconds!

I was at the dealer for an oil change yesterday, and was told of the recall. I haven't followed here recently, so didn't know about any problems. He said besides the stop light, it could affect how the car starts.

Has nothing at all to do with how the car starts, someones feeding you BS,it has to do with how the car stops, your lights and cruise control.

At least they fixed it without me having to make a special trip.
I am using the cruise control alot, especially after my speeding ticket.

FHP? Hey Billy Mays flew into Tampa Airport on Saturday and hit his head on a rough landing. He died the next day (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif)

On the 23rd of June I paied $100 to my dealership for them to look at the ESC problem since my car has 60K miles on it. They told me it was the $5.30 brake switch part, and they would install it for me for $170. I told them no thanks, bought this part, and put it in myself. Feeling dumb for spending $105 for a 5 buck part and ten minutes of my time. Now i see the recall was issued the next day! What a scam my dealership is running! i'm going to call them and see if I can't get my 100 bucks back, but i'm not holding my breath.

I'd call HMA & get their opinion, and then demand your money back from the Dealer.

A Dealer has a right to charge for any TSB Repairs, but this was classified as a Recall in April.
