Just bought an '06 Sonata last week. Loving it so far. Been doing quite a few little repairs here and there and this site has been a great help.

I replaced the fog lights as they were both burned out. Used the photo tutorial on here and came in through the bottom splash guard. Arms my look like I tried a suicide attempt but I got the job done.

Replaced the cabin air filter. This is the one that actually led me to find this place. The instructions in the manual are wrong.

Now moving on to paint chip repair and the mysterious esc/abs light that comes and goes once in a while. Going to look at http://www.drcolorchip.com/ that was recommended on one of the posts. It looks awesome.

Thats all I got. Thanks for all your great info on here.

We have a member here ddix who claims he can change the Cabin Filter in less than thirty seconds. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

What is wrong about the Instructions in the Manual? I find it to be as clear as can be? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

I just looked at it again. Yes, it is correct. I was just looking in the wrong place. *sigh*

I thought the door was going to be on the right side of the center instrument panel. So I actually changed the filter without opening the door. Just stuck my finger up the side and released the little o-ring. I was sitting in the passenger seat with the door shut. LOL.

I know. Pretty annoyed about this. The very next day after reading the post my ESC/ABS light is on and I need to use a screwdriver to pop the shift lock out. Taking it in tomorrow morning.

Check engine light came on too but I think it was a gas cap issue. Not sure if I need to reset the comp to make the light go off or if i drive it enough it will go off on it's own.

But your Car was made 4 Years ago, and now this has happened? Why did you have to pop the Shift Lock too?

I am not aware of a way to reset Dash warning lights. How would that work?

I recently purchased the car. going on 2 weeks now. no warranty. I drove it a good deal before purchasing and it seemed solid. No lights. Everything seemed kosher.

The ECS/ABS started coming on within the last week. No real rhyme or reason to it. sometimes it woudl just turn on. If i turned the car off and came back to it the light would be off and then maybe come back on later while driving again. Not all the time.

Now it is almost constant and the car does not want to shift out of park, or into park, without pushing the shift lock release. I'm hoping that maybe this recall is why the car was on the lot and that i did not just purchase a lemon. Not like I can give the car back now.

This is in the recall notice

"A stop lamp switch malfunction may affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature so the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of Park position."

so i have that sympton, and the ecs/abs light. Don't really feel like testing the cruise control not turning off symptom LOL.

I LOVE the car so I'm trying to stay positive that this will cure it.

As for the warning lights. There is usually a button on the fuse panel to reset it. Haven't gotten that far yet though as I'm still at work.

There was a TSB http://sonata.jerrystout.us/tsb/shift_out_of_park.pdf, about the Shifter problem on the 06.

The Stoplight switch recall, and any other recall's should be performed free of charge at the Dealership. TSB's

are another story. You bought a good Car, but you should have had it checked out first, especially by a Hyundai shop.

And my Buick had a slot that you stick the Key in the Dash display if the periodic maintenance light came on. However

there is no way to reset a warning light in the Sonata. You need to visit the Hyundai shop!

There is no button/slot/key to turn off the indicator light in the Sonata. However, if the light was indeed triggered by a loose gas cap, it should turn itself back off within 50 miles of driving after rectifying the problem (i.e., tightening the gas cap). If the light was triggered by some other malfunction or sensor, it will need to be turned off with a scanner/code reader. Auto Zone will read (and clear) the code for free if you ask. Hyundai will probably charge you 1/2 hour for labor.
