I have a 2006 Sonata with 50K miles and on the Driver side leather seat it an area that is really worn from getting in and out of the car. You can see the area as it really stands out as being worn.
My question is does the warranty cover this type of wear and tear as it goes beyond normal breakdown of the material. I would expect that the seat would not show this type of wear after 3.5 years and 50K of mileage. I would expect it maybe after 6 years 100K of normal wear and tear.

Thanks

David

While the Limited Warranty covers defects in Leather, wear is not covered.

I have the exact problem, as was pointed out by my Mobile Detailer. However

there are no cracks or tears, and the Leather still looks good!

Me too. This is the problem. One day it will be a tear. There are ways to repair Leather, but this is an area

that would seem hard to fix. Hey how is that Thousand Oaks Hyundai Dealer Dave? I was going to come see

them, but the 'You will need to leave the Car for the ENTIRE Day' is such a turn off, for an Oil change. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/trophy.gif)

Howerver I am always aware of your area too. And if I do make it to the High Desert V, I'll bring some

Miami - I haven't been to the Thousand Oaks dealer yet. I used to go to the LAX Superstore and the best dealer experience I have had was when dealing with that store. Now I have a closer store, Keyes Van Nuys. So far not really happy with them. First experience was an Oil change they quoted me at $55 and when they called me to say it was done I was told the cost was $89. I said that was assinine and the guy got really upset that I used the word assinine. They relented and charged me $55 but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Considering they were only a 2 month old dealership they should have gone out of their way to have good customer service but what I hear this is normal with Keye's dealerships. If I could I would keep going to LAX superstore as they work hard to earn your business.

While I was surprised Keyes was doing Hyundai now, as they have been part of Southern California for what

50 Years? Anyway I see they are offering no Service specials. You know it is illegal to quote you a price

and change that price in California. What happened? I'd call the B.A.R, if it is still open. As a kid I remember Ronald Reagan's

warning up in all shops. Arnold should have something similar on display.

In Miami that Estimate thing is displayed in 3 languages. English, Spanish, and any ideas about the third? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/57.gif)

California, but you knew that CB. Anyhow if he shows me his recommendation, and I show him

mine, it is totally legal. Sounds kinda funny though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)

Unfortunately "Normal Wear & Tear" are not covered. But don't be too discouraged, there are custom upholstery shops that can repair or replace the leather sections of your seats. These are not designed to fit over-top the existing seat, they disassable the seat, open the seams, replace the worn fabric with new, & re-assemble the seat. Almost like new, almost. They may also be able to "recondition" the leather but my experience with this has been disappointing. I suggest replacing the worn sections of the seat. I have found the cost reasonable for the work I've had done of this nature.

If you're worried about dye matching the old leather sections with new leather sections forget it. You either have to replace all the leather on the seat to match (this can get VERY expensive) or you can mix colors in the seat. If the side bolsters are worn but not the center section replace the bolsters w/ a contrasting color. (or vice-versa.) If the center sections are worn you can consider upgrading to perforated leather if you want. You'll have to be a little creative but the guys at the shop can help. They do this for a living.

Good Luck.

joekewl's got me thinking ... a good shop would make sure the replacement seat covers have the special break away stitching that lets the side air bag deploy. I assume a shop that puts any old seat cover on a car with side airbags could be sued successfully if there was an accident.
