My air conditioner (from new) seems to work properly only when I'm driving over 50mph. On the interstate, for example, it's fine. Recently I had a passenger who really drew my attention to it. "What's wrong with your air conditioner. You should get it fix!"

It seems that, when I am stopped (as in stop-and-go traffic) or parked with the car running, the air conditioner blows warm air.

Is this normal for this car? It's a 2006 Azera. If not, is there an easy fix?

This happened from day 1, so I just thought it was normal. But I guess it's not.

I wanted to ask here, before I approached the dealer. I am due scheduled maintenance next week. I was going to bring it up then.

Thanks

Katz

It should be ice cold all the time. Only time its warm is when i first start up the car, takes 30 seconds or so for the compressor to do its job.

Guess I should have had it checked out when I first bought it. Probably a big expense to get it fixed now.

Thanks for the quick response.

Sounds like the cooling fan is not coming on at idle. You need air flow through the condenser to get proper cooling. Maybe a fuse, relay or motor. In any case head to the dealer or a nearby mechanic. Should be a easy fix if they know something about A/C.

I ended up taking it in to the dealer 3 times, before they finally fixed it. The 3rd time, they had it 3 days. They had to rip out the whole dash. Everything was covered by my warranty and it works 100% now.

Thanks Hyundai (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

I'm not sure. I understood that it was the "sensor" (thermostat?).
They did so many things, I lost track. I do know that they had to work directly with the Hyundai, before they found the problem. In other words, it wasn't a "typical" problem. I was told they had to pull the whole dashboard out.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

There are several sensors in the AC system, from the driver's side "bump" on the dash (which measures the intensity of sunshine) to the outdoor and cabin air temperature sensors, data from all of which is used to calculate how much outside air and AC compressor use is necessary to meet the desired cabin setting which you selected. I'll guess that maybe they forgot about the sunlight sensor in the process, which finally required them to pull the dash...
