i never thought one of the criteria for buying a car was how it coasts. well maybe i did. i loved how my wifes grandmother's buick coasted. let off the gas and it would go for miles. this car on the other hand, when i let off the gas its fine if im over 55, but from 55 and under, the rpms fall, then rise again, then fall again, etc. its like the torque convertor locks and unlocks constantly. its such a pain in the butt and it seems to be growing in intensity. is anyone else experiencing this and more importantly, got it fixed?

Yes and not fixed, "everything within spec, unable to reproduce". Does it all the time. Just another reason I can't wait to get rid of the car in august.

I've had the same problem for several months. Not fixed yet. I'm dreading going to the dealer with this problem (see boostedfc3s' post).

That's how it's supposed to be! As you let off the accelerator and the speed is reduced the auto box gears down and then down again same as you would with a manual box. That's an IMPROVEMENT over the old boxes, it also provides engine braking which was absent in the older ones. All this provided you don't have cruise on (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

Typical response from Hyundai service. I've heard that so many times it makes me want to punch um in the face. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wallbash.gif)

Are you kidding? While coasting, it is constantly locking and unlocking in rapid succession. This can't be normal. Besides, it has only begun to do this recently. It didn't happen for the first 20 months I had the car. I suspect this is the reason that my gas milage has dropped a few mpg lately.

From what I can determine it has to do with the drive by wire throttle, mine will bounce if I think i have my foot off the gas but it may still be touching it a little bit. If I move my foot away from the pedal it will usually stop, then again sometimes not. Or I just put the **** thing in neutral and end it once and for all.

I have this same problem, wrote about it here on this forum. Someone said that it was a feature that keeps the car from accerationg when going down hill, and it sometimes get cofused on near level gound with little resitence (drag). The car seems to do this more on shallow down hill descents and speeds below 50 mph on level ground.
And No it's not down shifting, move the shifter over in 5th and it does the same with out shifting down to a lower gear. Just the RPMs change as the original post states. Mine goes up/down 200-300 rpms at speed slowing from 50-37, two to three times and remains in 5th gear.
I have not taken it to the dealer and would like to know if this is what is actualy happening or somethings wrong.
Does all Azera do this?
Q.

Mine does exactly as you've described but it didn't always do it. Just in the last several months has this started which leads me to believe that there is a problem and that it is not "how it is supposed to be".

If I recall correctly, my 2007 Azera did the same thing and did it from the very beginning. It was even noticable when coasting at freeway speeds getting ready to hit the off ramp on level ground.

I never gave it a lot of thought. I just assumed it was normal for an Azera.

During the 26,000 miles that I drove the car, it never got any better or worse and I never brought it up to the dealer.

I never had this problem with my 06 Azera. But I do have the cracked dash and questionable paint job. Well, it is still a Hyundai and if it wasn't for the new shocks I installed on the beast, I would be trading it in for something better, like a used Lexus LS 430.

Yeah, whatever "it" is, all Azeras do it. They all have the same 5-speed Aisin transmission. Both of ours & my dad's do it. It's weird. At first I thought it was some kind of engine-braking feature to keep you from accelerating when coasting downhill, but sometimes it actually slows you down. Not sure what the malfunction is.

LS430 looking more and more attractive all the time. They aren't pretty by any stretch of the imagination, they're just kind of... big and sharp. Nothing spectacular, but nice inside. It's almost like the equation is, "Nicest car you can get that's also reliable." It's neither THE nicest car possible, nor THE most reliable. Just a lot higher on the curve than Azera or possibly even Genesis. Oh well. I digress.

Did yours do "it" from the git-go. Mine didn't.

Yeh, all of the three in my family had the "it" from the word go. It's sure a shame if it's not supposed to happen and new cars with only a few hundred miles on them are already having a transmission problem (or, at least, oddity).
