Hyundai are aware that a NEW i10 clutch can shudder from cold if the car has not been used for a few days. However once warmed up it seems to return to normal. This may be less apparent as the clutch wears in. there is probably a alignment issue or even a driven plate quality issue here. Dealers will only recognize you have a problem once they have discussed this with Hyundai technical who will probably issue a bulletin soon.

I have just heard from Customer Service that Hyundai have a fix for the clutch problem. They have now made a new clutch assembly which is different from the original. I am told that my i10 will be the first to receive this new assembly and the parts are presently on the way to the UK from Korea.
If you are experiencing clutch problems and your local Service manager is not recognising the problem refer him to Hyundai technical.

I would think that if your new car is 12 weeks away it will have the new assembly otherwise I am just not too sure. Korea have only just made the parts available. It would be difficult to check this out as only Hyundai can give the chassis number of the start of the modification.

Just ordered i10 Classic. Having read correspondence about clutch problem I asked agents if they knew of the problem and design change. The answer was "no" on both counts.

At their instigation I contacted Hyundai UK customer support. They denied that there was either an issue with the clutch or a design change and insisted they would know if there was.

Can anybody reveal their sources of the info about the modification ? Help !!

Hyundai are well aware of the clutch modification and the new clutch is in stock within the Hyundai UK Stores . speak to Lee at Customer Support.

It is quite normal to feel difficulty when trying to engage first from second when moving slowly it does get better as the gearbox wears. Most cars are like this, you will even feel difficulty changing from first to second when the gearbox is cold (in winter) most cars are like this and worse when new. Enjoy your i10.

My i10 had clutch shudder, It is causing me to drive a lot faster from rest and use lots of rpm to stop shudder, If you keep the revs high and slip the clutch the car is fine, I got 146000 miles out of my last car before selling it without replacing the clutch, not sure if that will be the case if you have to slip it to stop shudder. In the wet the wheels spin if you are not carfull using high rpm.

Well I have been cursed with the juddering clutch...it was mainly when cold but gradually getting worse so at 500 miles I took it to Brooklyns, Seaford where I bought it. They asked if I was revving the engine enough!! Well I have been driving 30 years...so yes...probably !! I have never had this problem before and certainly expect smooth driving from a new car. So they adjusted the clutch-cable. It seemed better for a while but is now as bad as ever after another 100 miles. I have booked it in again for a proper check next week. They say they have never had to replace a clutch on one yet but I read on here that a few people have been having clutch issues.
Have you got the judders ????

I've had the judders. To start with my dealer just tightened the cable and questionned my driving style. However, after it was still getting worse I insisted that a mechanic drove it - they then accepted there was a fault, contacted Hyundai and they replaced the clutch, clutch assembily and gearbox. Seems over the top to me seeing as a new clutch would have sufised in my opinion, but as all done under warrenty (Hyundai know there is an issue with some i10 clutches anyway) I didn't care. It has now been driving smoothly for a couple of months so I'm happy.

Anyone with juddering clutches, take them to a good dealer who will accept your word there is a problem and get them to speak to Hyundai technical and all should be sorted under warrenty

Mine doesn't judder as such, it's just that the bite point is uncomfortably low and as a result the action of pulling away can be very unforgiving, sometimes accompanied by a burning smell!

Went to the dealer to see if it could be adjusted. They say that they are aware of some clutch issues and that replacement modified parts are available if required. A technician will look at it on Monday to see if it needs the new parts.

I have an i10 Es 1.1 59 plate and yes I too have got the judders. I am pleased with the car but the judders make it look like you cant drive so it will be going in to my dealer as soon as I get time.

Now I have been having no issues with juddering with mine at all - however it has now got the squeaky seatbelt now...

My clutch still plays up if I do not use it for a few days, it is ok now, but have used it every day this week.
Great car 1300 miles now.

Well you should tell your dealer...why should you have this fault with a brand new car? Mine is ok if I drive it every day, but if I leave it for the weekend say, or 2 days parked then it jumps and judders like mad. My dealer (Seaford) has just fobbed me off so far but they say they will be talking to Hyundai about it...if they don't I certainly will !! This will surely mean a shorter clutch life and an expensive bill in the future.

25/09/09.
I took it to the dealer today.
They adjusted the clutch cable.
As you can guess this has had no effect.
The Service manager said that it may be that my wife and I are not giving the car enough revs and that if the problem persists we must take it back and leave it over night so that they can do a cold start test.
Why waste my time and theirs, would I bring back a car less than a month old if there were no problem do they think that we would buy a car to have it returned for no reason ?
We bought a car to use not sit in the garage and all the inconvenience that entails.
Hyundai you have a problem, come clean, put it right, don't fob your customers off with this you cant drive rubbish, issue a recall.
At the end of the day in the winter with ice on the roads you don't want to be driving around with a great heavy foot on the throttle.
This really could become a safety issue
