My 2005 CRDi auto has now covered 12000mls and what started as a vibration from transmission on pull away has now progressed to the shudder reported by other owners.
There is no diff whine at present so I am wondering if it is just a matter of having the diff oil replaced with the revised stuff or is it likely that damage will have occured to the bits that are sticking/slipping.
My suppling dealer is very new to Hyundai so I would like to gain as much info as possible before approching them.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Regards to all

Chris.

I am a new terracan owner and it appears to show signs of the 'shudder' everyone is talking about. My local dealer has indicated to me that it could be my fault as I used it in 4WD whilst during a very heavy rain storm. They say I should only use the 4WD on ice, snow or mud. It now appears not to be the case. It is the fault with the Diff and/or the oil, either being incorrect or not changed at the correct period.

My Terracan has done 16K miles so I fall into the catergory that I have read about in this forum. It was serviced at 1 year (5K miles) and 2 years (12K miles)

Has anybody else been told this story, using the car in 4WD in the wet, on wet roads? It says you can in the handbook. If so how difficult was it for the diff to be changed? How hard did yuo have to fight?

Has anybody failed to have their diff exchanged when the fault was notified t the dealer?

I look forward t hearing from you all

There should be no problem with changing your diff and trust me I am speaking from experience (three on my previous terracan 2004 model) for just the fault you are describing. My new terracan is fine with 32000 miles up, one thing to try though is to drive your terracan in a tight figure of eight a few times in either direction this can sometimes free a sticking diff up this worked on my last one with no further re-occurance.

If the figure of eight trick does'nt work then pester your dealer as they can be changed in about three hours.

cheers Hammy

I have my Terracan booked in for investigation at my local dealer during the xmas break. I will wait and find out what the outcome will be. They do not know that I have the information from this website. I will keep you all informed.

I've the simular situation now. My Car is now at the dealer and the have change the chain from the middle ax. Where also the automatic switch is in the middle of the car. When you pull the white connector off, the car is going 2WD and the problem is over. The origine problem is the different size in milimeters of the tyres. The tyres have been change from the back to the front and from the front to the back every 5 till 7000 miles (10.000 kilometres). When You don't do this the Tyres are not simular and the car will be vibrating.
