Hi and welcome to the forums what I would suspect is that somewhere a wiring fault, loose wire or another wiring issue that may be causing this and really you ought to take it into a dealer to resolve. (especially as its a safety issue.)

This should be a warranty issue.

Cheers

agree with 'itza' this is not a issue you can sort out for yourself, but it is likely to be something minor

What's really annoying about an air bag light is that the dealer has to put his magic system scanner on it to check the system and reset the light. I've heard of a stealership charging around $90-100 for this simple service. Can you say "Ripoff"? I knew you could.

Hey DSHornet you have a name with a sting in the tail too! If you want a dealer to remain on side then I would suggest you stopped calling him a stealer otherwise he will have the last laugh when you have to get the moths out of your wallet before you have to pay him. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Now not all Dealerships will make a charge for this-Is your tuc still within warranty if so no charge should be made at all.
Ripoff, Ripoff say it too many times and you will believe it and so will the entire Hyundai driving population.
The dealers who charge extortionate costs don't remain in buisiness do they because word gets around and you can go and buy a Scan guage from www.scangauge.com and then see for yourself if there is a fault causing the light to come on and even reset it if no fault shows then after a short while the Hyundai Computer will ensure the light stays off unless a fault replicates the problem. I have heard that in the US that a wiring fault in the steering wheel area has caused the light to go on and if that is sorted then that may solve the problem.

Cheers

Itza

Itzastorybehindthat,y'all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laughing.gif)

Sorry 'bout that. Just couldn't resist. Heh, heh.

The DS are (is?) my initials and the Hornet was an AMC I had a long time ago that would run shockingly well - well enough that a friend wanted to buy it for his wife to get his Z-28 back from her. And a co-worker wanted to buy it for his GF to get his Olds 4-4-2 back from her. Pretty good for a "Rambler."

The comment about "stealership" came from a Kia message board where it was routine (judging from multiple reports in several locations) for a Kia dealer to charge exorbitantly to simply reset the air bag light when the reason for the light being on was obvious and easily accounted for. I ran into that myself when I forgot to disconnect the car battery one day before I disconnected and reconnected a SRS connector while chasing another problem. Afterward, the stupid light would stay on for three minutes every time I started the car - a nuisance, nothing more. The local Kia dealer wanted to charge $100 to check the system before resetting the light, even though I knew the source of the problem. I offered $10 and he refused. So I left the light on and it was that way until the Sportage was wrecked last September.

Now, I fully understand the liability issue involved for the Kia dealer, but I was willing to annotate the service ticket to the effect that I would not hold them liable if the system malfunctioned. I simply wanted the light off - it would come back on eventually if there were a genuine problem. And $100 to check out the system? Ludricrous! So he got $0 and I just ignored the stupid light.

So, yes, there are many reputable dealer shops out there. Actually, I have had nothing but good business dealings from the ones close to me, but the disreputable ones make a bad name for all.

Sorry if this sounds lie a rant, but that's the rest of the story. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)
