Sorry 'bout that. Just couldn't resist. Heh, heh.
The DS are (is?) my initials and the Hornet was an AMC I had a long time ago that would run shockingly well - well enough that a friend wanted to buy it for his wife to get his Z-28 back from her. And a co-worker wanted to buy it for his GF to get his Olds 4-4-2 back from her. Pretty good for a "Rambler."
The comment about "stealership" came from a Kia message board where it was routine (judging from multiple reports in several locations) for a Kia dealer to charge exorbitantly to simply reset the air bag light when the reason for the light being on was obvious and easily accounted for. I ran into that myself when I forgot to disconnect the car battery one day before I disconnected and reconnected a SRS connector while chasing another problem. Afterward, the stupid light would stay on for three minutes every time I started the car - a nuisance, nothing more. The local Kia dealer wanted to charge $100 to check the system before resetting the light, even though I knew the source of the problem. I offered $10 and he refused. So I left the light on and it was that way until the Sportage was wrecked last September.
Now, I fully understand the liability issue involved for the Kia dealer, but I was willing to annotate the service ticket to the effect that I would not hold them liable if the system malfunctioned. I simply wanted the light off - it would come back on eventually if there were a genuine problem. And $100 to check out the system? Ludricrous! So he got $0 and I just ignored the stupid light.
So, yes, there are many reputable dealer shops out there. Actually, I have had nothing but good business dealings from the ones close to me, but the disreputable ones make a bad name for all.
Sorry if this sounds lie a rant, but that's the rest of the story. (IMG:
